Need a V10 muffler recommendation please

When I bought my 01 EX the PO had taken the cat off and installed a Magnaflow muffler with a 4" exhaust pipe. As the drone was driving me nuts I tried installing a resonator upstream of the muffler but that didn't really help any.

I'm really lucky in finding a good shop that is working with me to find something that I like. I'm currently running a Interco welded steel truck muffler. Its as loud as the magnaflow and the drone is pretty much gone but now there is a tinny rattle that I really don't like that is apparently from the baffles in the Interco.

Reading the exhaust forum on here didn't yield any solutions so I thought I'd try here. Surely somebody has a performance muffler setup that they could recommend?

Thanks....

Im a Flowmaster guy. I run a 40 series on my Excursion. Im going with dual exhaust with high flow cats and 40 series on both sides. It depends on what sound your looking for. I use flowmasters on all my trucks/cars.

I just installed an Xlerator X140 on mine - it's very quiet - very similar to stock. It's really too quiet for me but my local Carquest who I deal with a lot with my shop gave me a great deal on it. I'm hoping it becomes a little louder as the packing burns out a bit. Something like it would most likely get rid of the drone - but you will most likely have it no matter what you install until you get a new cat installed. I'm getting ready to take it to Miami and back for our cruise and if it's doesn't have a bit more sound by the time I get back I will most likely replace it with a Flowmaster 70.

i had a dynomax super turbo on my old '04. it was alittle louder then stock and sounded great, no drone of any kind.

here is a vid of it right after i had it done, i can attest its alittle louder now as i'm good friends with the new owners

Listened to the clip and it sounded pretty good. So, no drone at all? How about when towing?

I wonder if not having a Cat would make much difference in the sound?

I would but those are kind of pricey, not sure I want to spend $300+ on a cat just now...

Here is what I would do.....

I would buy this. The only possible difference would be the inlet on the muffler might have to be reduced. I bought their other superduty set up and its great.

nope no drone at all, i've never towed anything so i cant comment on that part. but inside the truck it sounded exactly like stock. but outside it had a nice tone.

if you add a cat, it'll def lower the volume of the exhaust all together.

Its probably been awhile but do you happen to remember the model Dynomax you had? Can't seem to get a match to an EX goinjg through the Dynomax applicability pulldowns on their website. Wasn't the RV model was it?
