I'm looking to replace the exhaust from Y pipe back reusing just the Cat.
I am at a loss as to what muffler to use, can't find any useful information on the web. My muffler guy said something about Magnaflow but didn't specify any further.
Looks to cost about $220 plus the SPD Y pipe. plus or minus the difference in muffler price.
If I could get some suggested mufflers I'd appreciate it!
Not really looking for sound, more on the quieter side.
Mainly the performance.
I put the biggest Magnaflow I could get, in the configuration I needed to replace the stock muffler without changing anything else.
Sounds decent, especially with headers. And I like that it's stainless.
The bigger the muffler, the less noise it will make overall, and the deeper the "tone". The Magnaflow is basically a single straight-through pipe, with holes in the pipe to allow the noise to dissipate.

Awesome, I'm thinking of the 40 series Magnaflow.
How do you like the Volant CAI? does it have to be oiled?
I have a 2009 6.8, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options.
Magnaflow? any others? Probably will have to with a single exit as the dual
exits are so expensive plus probably alot more retrofitting. Where would you purchase? AutoAnything website? Is there a Flowmaster also?
My local muffler guy I know is gonna do everything. He's gonna make the exhaust exit in front of the tire like F-150 Lightnings. I'm just supplying the y pipe so he doesn't have to make one.
He suggested a Magnaflow muffler, and from what I've heard it seems to be a good choice.
I know it would probably be better to weld but I'm not going off-road for the most part.
I put a Magnafow cat-back on my Mustang and it's been great. Just used the fittings that
they supplied. I'll check out the Magnaflow, it will be between it and a Flowmaster. Might just come down to the best deal. lol.
Flowmaster # 853073 and it is stainless.Product Details Autoanything.com has it for under $150 shipped. Or buy the stainless Force II cat back. Just replaced the steel version on my truck with the stainless version.
Also. Expect the exhaust note to get a little funky at certain rpms with the SPD y-pipe. Like somewhere between 2000-3000.

I would advise against all of that. Been there on both accounts, have the t-shirt.
I recently put the largest Magnaflow on my V10 in a 2012 F550 4x4, and on the first tank of gas, I got 1 mpg better mileage. This truck is used solely for towing, and my payloads average from 7000-15000 lbs.
I have been considering some sort of air intake system, but from what I have read on this board, it doesn't sound like they will offer much benefit.

Advise against the "Lightning" style exhaust or the muffler???

I used to have it on my truck and so did my dad. Gets annoying after a while. Very loud, drone and etc. I would exit behind the rear axle. You will get a more throaty sound that way also.
