Question Help: specs for 400

Hi guys, can anyone help me with the specifications for a stock, carbed 400 V-8 (HP, torque, etc), thanks... How does it compare vs. a 351W?

The only stock 351W that will give you 100hp more than a stock 400 (or your I6) is the '93-'95 Lightning engine. I've never seen one available for under $1K, and you'd need all the sensors, wiring harness, and ECU to make it run. If you want to run a manual transmission or an older non-electronic automatic behind it, you'll need the FRPP ECU, because they only came with the E4OD automatic from the factory.

Power difference between the 351W and 400, during the years they were both available, varied from a high of 26hp (1976 351W 154hp, 400 180hp) to a low of 4hp (1975 351W 154hp, 400 158hp). Differences year-to-year were mostly a result of emissions tuning (less ignition advance when unleaded fuel was mandated in 1975, and lower compression in the later 400s because of pinging problems with low octane fuel).

Check this page for hp and torque ratings of the 400:

You can look up the 351W hp figures on this page:
