1986 Bronco - help

Don't remember the technical name for it but, have you tried the ignition module on the side of the dist. The have a bad habit of over-heating and causing the problem you mentioned. One word of advice though do not buy a cheap one from a discount parts store go to NAPA or Ford for it just MHO. Hope this helps and Good Luck,

1986 Bronco - help

my 86 351w was doing the same thing would run great for about 10 miles then just die wait an hour and she start.

the problem was two fold the ignition module for one was bad.

the stater inside of distributer was also dryroughted and would over heat I beleive this caused the ignition mod to go out.

I opted to get a ne distributer alltogether its $50.00 at advanced with lifetime warenty were just the stater was $20.00 I didnt have the tools to pull the gear and set ring of to replace it thats why I went with full replacement. the ignition mod was $18.00 to replace hope this helps.
