without having the benefit of a hollander interchange book -the cd would be nice- i'll ask here..
will a ring gear from a 5.0l from an 88 LTD fit a 300 six without vibes?
i want to put a 300 6 in front of an AOD from the above same car in my truck, and am wondering what ring gear/flywheel i will need..

Unless your car had an aftermarket set of gears, I would question the fruits of your labor. Those gears are most likely 2.73 or 3.08 and would make your truck kinda sluggish. With overdrive and a stock 29" tire (LT 235-75-R15) and Overdrive, I'd suggest 3.55-3.73 gears. Just my educated guess, but I think that due to the truck's larger tire diameter plus it's added weight, you'd be unhappy with the car gears.
sorry, i mean the automatic flywheel from the 302, no gears involved.. also,
the truck has 4.10 gears.. i think a 300I6 with an AOD will be a nice setup, with that gearing..
The inline six is balanced differently than the V8, so while they will physically interchange, it would be wise to aqquire a dedicated flex plate/ring gear for your six. I've been told that whacking the weights off of the V8 Flexplate will make it capable, but for what a new flexplate costs, the risks don't outweigh the benefits.
300's are all internal balance
302 are exernal balance with 28inch/once weight untill around 82 (cars changed a little earlier then trucks) and 50inch/once after around 82.
good info, thank you very much... will i have a problem finding a 300 six flex plate that the AOD tourque convertor will bolt to ? or is it exactly like a C4 or C6 ?
Should be no problem. Pattern is the same for the EOD trans (the electronic AOD). Also, I've seen AOD/Inline Six setups from the factory. They are just unusual because most Automatic/Inline Six combos were equipped with C6 trannys to the best of my knowledge.
