Question 300/223

Is there any reality to the idea of interchanging a 300 dist. with a 223 just by changing the gear? And if so, is that all? Will the gears interchange? Where did I come up with this idea????

For what purpose? If you have a 223, use the appropriate distributor. Same goes for a 300.

@ Harte3; He's interested in exchanging his 223 one for one from a 300 for electronic ignition purposes.

@ Factory; I've actually come across an article on this exchange, but I've not got it @ hand @ present. From what I recall it's rather viable upgrade. I believe Mallory Ignition co. does this, but I can't reliably recall.

Loser Index An ignition upgrade can be had on the cheap. If the 223 distributor isn't worn out it probably can be used with the GM HEI module and the distributor becomes the trigger mechanism IIRC.

I believe he wishes to get completely away from a system that uses Points.

Surely Pertronix or somebody makes a conversion module for the 223...

What they make for the 223 is for the double ballast(?) series distributor which is post '61 & will not work on earlier versions.

When the points are used merely as a trigger for an electronic ignition, there is very little wear or adjustment on them. The electronic ignition carries the load. Check with these people: Ford Distributors They might be able to help.

They've nothing for the 223 I6, only for the 170 Special/200 I6 SBF & 240/300 I6 BBF.
