I want to add something to my truck and am debating bed caps. If I do get bed caps I would get Dee Zee brand diamond plate with stake holes. Any pros or cons to having bed caps? Does the adhesive tape damage the paint if they were to be removed? How do you think they would look on my '86?
I have those on my '86 and '95 trucks and like them a lot. They really keep the top of the bed from getting scratched up loading and unloading things. Mine don't have the adhesive tape, I had to drill I think 3 holes on each side. No big deal.
I can only think of two minor disadvantages: I can tell mine have worn some paint off underneath on the edges. You can't tell, but if I ever took them off I'd have to get it fixed. And when you wash your truck, water likes to stay underneath the outside edge and then leave streaks when it drips down. Just run a towel edge underneath though and it gets it.
I'd say go for them. They would look good on your truck, and match your toolbox. You can see my trucks in my gallery with them if you want.
I have the bed rail caps and full front and full rear box protector. I baught mine though DeeZee. I am completely happy with them. They powder coat them to keep their shine for years. I have a 03' Super Duty that come with the crappy plastic ones. The DeeZee protectors fit over them. They were installed with stainless carridge bolts. Go for it. They will look great. Look in gallery to see mine.
