gut 'em and leave the rest of your set-up alone. i'll sound fine. and the feds have bigger fish to fry. when was the last time someone was ever sold out by anyone because their cats are gutted?! never heard such a story
If you want more flow and sound, DO NOT GUT YOUR CAT
Gutting a cat makes a big oversized pocket in your exhaust where it expands, looses velocity and then must be forced back into the exhaust pipe... NOT a performance upgrade. Cats are also bloody expensive for people who still need them. Hell, you might want to keep it just in case you ever sell the truck, so you can return it to compliance.
Cut the pipe 2-3" inches in front and behind the cat and fab up a piece of straight pipe and install it in place of the cat. Use Band-Style clamps for either butt or lap (slip fit) joint. Totally clean and will not rob power like a gutted cat.
For your REAR o2 sensor, use something like the 42 Draft Designs o2 Sensor Spacer or fab your own to make something similar. Google has tons of results when you look this up, import guys have been doing this for years on OBDII vehicles to stop check engine lights. By placing the o2 sensor out of the direct exhaust stream, the rear sensor reads lower than the front. This fools the ECU into thinking there is still a cat there because of the difference in the sensor reading between the front and rear sensors. All the ECU is looking for is a reading differential, nothing else.
just curious how u took out the cat on the 94 5.0 i have a 95 5.0 and want to make it louder... is it worth it to take off the cats and run a dummy o2?

I have Borla muffler, dual exhaust(not true duals) on my truck. I'm thinking of just running true duals H-pipe without a muffler, from the cats back and leaving the cats alone. I don't want something obnoxiously(sp) loud, but I wnat to hear it and I want a good tone. I want to either to that or gut the cats and keep the Borla on there. I'm not bad person for gutting the cats, just want a louder sound, ya know, hope ya understand. Thanks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
