temp sensor...

I need a part number for the temp sensor for my truck. The dummies at advance have sold me the wrong one 2 times now. I used a jumper wire on the plug to make sure I didn't have a broke wire somewhere. The gauge went up when I jumped it. Went and got a new 30$ and it still don't work

Ok thanks. I'm not sure why I didn't think about going to ford. They are just about 10 minutes away from where I'm staying over.

Well if you compare their price to the 2 wrong ones advance has sold me at 30$ each. Ford would have been cheaper

Coolant sensors seem to be a thing now. Scott's PN and link above are indeed a coolant sensor, but the description "used as oil temp sensor" confused me. Poked around and according to Parts Guy Wyatt also says on this thread that very common coolant sensor is used as the oil temp sensor on a 7.3. Plus on the pic below from Ford (labeled 12A648) again as oil temp. Parts Guy Wyatt suggested F65Z10884AA is the coolant sensor, 10884 below. Then a later poster apparently used the 12A648 and all was well. So I'm confuzzled.

Do us a favor BJ and post up the part numbers you got from Advance. Just curious.

Wink

Down in the smaller print on this it says its used for oil temp sensor.....

I got an aftermarket one years ago and the plug was not the same as mine, so I put the old one back in....

I'm wondering now if there is a difference between EARLY '99 and LATE '99 on.......

As far as being an E99 vs L99 I'm not sure. I looked at the pic in the link that I posted and the sensor tip does not look like mine. The pic directly above (the one that says "out of stock") does. Now i'm starting to get confused...Lol.

I know in the smaller print it says "use as oil temp sensor" but in the bold print it says "Part Name: Engine Coolant Temp Sensor". I don't think they would be the same part cause the 2 different sensor won't fit in the same hole (if I remember correctly).

update!!

Went to the advance by my house. Of course the pulled up the same sensor. I told the guy that was the wrong sensor and explained the problem to him with the sensors ohming different. He looked up a temperature sending unit. It had a different part number and was only $8 so I got it. Now my gauge works again

When I replaced my water pump, the temp sensor that RockAuto suggested wasn't the right one. I just ended up re-using my old temp sensor like some other folks did. Caused me a small headache trying to figure out why I couldn't get me water temp needle off the bottom with a new water pump, hoses, etc.

Sounds like a computer system issue with their cross-referencing of parts.
