I was wondering does anybody know of a good five speed tanny for a 68 F100. I have a very strong 302 and a weak C4 in the truck. I have looked at rebuilding the C4 but a five speed manual would be a much cooler. I need a tranny that has the shifter more toward the driver's side. I have looked at a few already and they have the shifter coming straight up from the top which would put the shifter to far away. Any suggestions?

That is why most top loaders have big long bent shifters, including the top loaders in trucks. You can easily find a T-5 or Tremec to put behind a 302 because they come in Mustangs.
It sounds like you have a 2x4 so I would suggest buying the strongest manual you can afford and adapting the shifter from a standard truck 4 speed (Np435 or T-18) to whatever manual transmission you choose.
Does the T5 or tremec have any electronic hardware that has to be wired up? I am going to a juckyard on monday to see if I can get a shifter from an older truck.
The new Tremec TKO 500 and 600 have a mechanical or electronic speedometer hook up, a electronic back up switch and a neutral safety switch. They also have a new shifter handle option which moves the shifter 2 inches offset of the main shift rail. Fred
