I have recently acquired a 1999 F250 with PSD. Tonight I noticed a large amount of what appears to be fuel under engine whether idling or shut off. Truck got 20 mpg on first tank of fuel now running about 14 mpg. Any thoughts beside head for dealer on Monday?
I'm not real familliar with the Powerstroke but on my 7.3 the fuel filter has a water drain that if isn't tight will dump fuel on the ground. That's usually where it is coming from if it is on the ground underneath. All the other leaks like fuel return lines usually leave the top of the engine covered with fuel. Also, if return lines or injectors start to leak you usually start to smell diesel fuel from inside the truck while you are driving.
Just thought I would mention in case you have not heard. Are you using your console to monitor your consumption? Cuase if you are they are apparently very inaccurate with the diesel anyways. Apparently only the compass and the temperature are accurate - all others are not! pretty neat ahe!?!?!?!

I also have 99 PSD and it is doing the same thing. I have located that leak is comming from the water tube. I have checked the valve and it is closed. Does anyone know if this valve can be replaced? Or is there a pressure problem that can cause the valve to leak? The valve must also be a vent because if you plug it you will have diesel everywhere. This is my first diesel and my first problem with 127,000 miles not too bad.
There was a big discussion about this problem over on the F-D forums a while back. The water drain valve on the fuel filter bowl has a rubber O-ring that seals it. Not too hard to replace. Someone located the correct size from Home Depot for less than $1. The size is:#90 1/2 x 1/4 x 1/8
There was some discussion about using just a regular O-ring or the Ford ones, but it appears it is ok to use them from reading the thread.
The Ford part:Valve assembly $45
F81Z-9A153-AA(includes O-rings for valve only + valve)
O-Ring Kit $35
F81Z-9C065-AA (includes all O-rings, without plastic valve) The O-ring kit includes all the O-rings needed for the entire filter assembly.
The thread on FD:

My 99.5 PSD had two leaks. One was the fuel return line, and the other was from the fuel filter bowl itself. Evidently the filter bowl base itself was cracked. It was later determined that Ford cracked the filter base while they were replacing the fuel return line
Nothing like a big ol' puddle under a $40k vehicle!!
David,
Thanks for the info. I am new to this site and there a lot to search through.
I found one of my leaks. It was due to the new fuel filter that I bought was not the brand I normally buy and the cap was one thread shorter than the one I get from NAPA. I finally gave up and put the old one back on until my local NAPA gets one in.
