That ordeal produced a great generation of self sufficient people who understood where true value lies. Maybe a second coming of such a time is what a spoiled materialistic population needs.
Where'd you hear that? I sure hope it doesn't reach that. I'll be spending my paychecks just to fill the tank for the drives to and from work.
i heard that from a good buddy of mine. he works at our local Cenex bout a mile from town. i sure hope it doesnt reach it either...but i guess we'll have to wait and see.
Its All A Bunch Of Bull Really Low Mpg Vheicles Or Not Blame The Towel Heads We Buy Oil From Them They Raised The Price On Crude To Us Its Nothing More Then That Its All About Profit There Is No Need For Rising Prices We Arent Running Out Of Gas And I Realy Dont Think That This World Will Be Dry Of Oil In Out Life Times Or The Next Or The Next After That And By Those Life Times Im Sure There Will Be Vheicles That Dont Even Require Fossile Fuels Withthe Way Technology Keeps Advancing Thats It Plan N Simple There No Reason But Profit!!!
Back when they first talked about the Alaskan oil line everyone said "no". What happened? The price of gas rose steadily until people were convinced that yes, we need the oil line. Gas prices then went down. Now they say there are great oil reserves in the wilderness areas of Alaska, that we need to tap into them to keep the price of oil fuels down and the people again are saying "oh, no". Sounds like were running in circles over and over again.......
Crude is up. Production is down. Our refineries can barely handle what we're getting anyway. So then we have the gas prices up 40-50 cents a gallon or more from January of this year.
Still not as high as they could go, and will go.
The individual station owners aren't to blame, they order their gas from the refineries and if their price goes up, they have to raise theirs. If their cost goes up 5 cents a week, they raise the pump price 5 cents a week. Do any of you know gas station attendants making more than $8 an hour? Do they drive Lexuses and Expeditions? Gas station owners don't want to raise prices any more than we want to pay them. I see more closed stations around now than I did last year, they can't cut costs any more.
But the oil companies are sitting pretty, aren't they?
I sure wish I owned an oil well or a refinery or a franchise brand name right about now, I'd be rolling in it...
Biodiesel is a pretty good answer...all you PS people should consider it. Costs more, yes, $2.50-$3.50 a gallon. Runs smoother and nearly as strong, and you don't pay much of a mileage penalty. All home-grown, soy, corn, whatever. Veggie oil, really. There's a guy sells the stuff in Dallas for $2.49 a gallon, you can mix 2 parts of that with 8 parts petrodiesel (at $1.60 a gallon still in Dallas), have a 20% mix, you're spending $1.78 a gallon (still cheaper than gasoline) and saving the planet. Get all the benefits of the smoother bio-fuel without spending that much extra dough.
I'm driving a Buick that gets 25mpg in town, a 4-cylinder Century sedan. If I bought a new Jetta wagon, 5-speed, diesel, I'd be getting 80% better mileage and could afford to spend the extra 60% to get pure Biodiesel and could certainly afford the slight increase to use petrodiesel.
I'd like to see carmakers offering more diesel passenger cars and light trucks and SUV's. Volkswagen is the only carmaker with diesel cars. Ford has been making a diesel Focus in pretty much every venue except North America. Why not here, too?

Its almost time to buy a horse and go back to riding horses. Gas is 1.91 - 2.11 here and is going up again this week. They say its suppose to be around 3 dollars by the end of august. I better get used to peddling up and down hills to go to work. I will have to ride my bicycle if it gets to much higher. Or get a hybrid, lol.

i believe that diesel vehicles have an undeserved bad rep here in the states. something along the lines of diesel = loud, smelly, polluting and annoying. never mind the fact that these motors are long lasting and more efficient. i had an f-250 psd before i bought my new f-150. it was a great truck. i wanted to buy another one, but just couldn't afford it. toyota makes an incredible diesel pickup. the hilux 3.0liter turbo diesel model. definitely limited in it's usage as a 'work' truck, being that it's not a full size truck. but my experiences with these pickups in central america left me with my jaw on the ground on a daily basis. a very capable and useful pickup that maintained 25 to 35 mpg depending on driving conditions. it would be nice to see ford introduce something similar being that they already make the badest full size on the market!!!!
Redneck: It's nice to read that you welcome high gas prices - does that mean you can afford them with no problem? I think low-income people that depend on something other than "gas guzzling trucks and suv's" to get to work and back feel a little differently.
Well one thing is for sure and that is, that obviously the average north american thinks gas must be to cheap when over 50% of new vehicals are trucks or suv's. Many of which are 4000lbs + with v-8 engines are airodydamics of a brick. I also find people wining about how they need the space, when there are plently of vans on the market that will hold just as much if not more and do it far for efficently. I'm sure the low income families don't like it but we can set the world up to suit them. Besides thats what public transit and car pooling is for. Many of the low income families drive older poorly maintain vehicals thats polute at a high rate and have questionable road worthyness anyway so in the big picture its doing us all a favour

Yep, thats how I see it too. When we let the political oil interests take over the wildlife refuge, they'll lower the price we pay. We pay the price for our decisions, and theirs. See, I could mention the word politics and not mention any of the appropriate 4 letter words.
one thing people need to remember is our president is an oil man too. high prices mean more money for him, so he won't investigate the price hike. I agree we need to boycott for a week, the oil companies would lose billions a day, but we also need to stay home for that week, hit the entire economy wright in the wallet, I'm so poor to miss a week of work could'nt hurt me any more than I already am. I know the oil is there 'cause half my fam. work the rigs drilling for oil, the companies they work for have more work than they can handle.
I pay 2.05 per gallon here in utah, and I need my truck for my work, and I need my 15 passenger van to haul all my kids around in or I get a ticket for not enough seats for the passengers, they have me where it hurts. Thoroughly mad, not much more I can say than thoroughly mad, to get enough people to stand together is impossible
davisironworks, you my freind, are right on the money, between Bush & Channey they will break this country into, and line there pocket's while they do it,remember the little co. called Haliburton in Tx. How much longer do those so called for the peploe think we can last at this pace. It just about make's me sick to my stomach to think they care about Iraq more than what's going on here in our country. Why in Gods name don't all the citizens in the U.S go to Washington D.C. and park in front of the Whitehouse so they will know how we feel. Now this is not meant in a bad way,but look what happened whem Martin Luther King did pretty much the same thing. ,RESULT"S.
