Well i love my old cars, and gas is getting expensive.......i think ill pull my 61 Falcon out, according to the manual she gets 30 mpg out of that lil 144ci I6, to bad I have to deal with the 85 hp rating, but slightly better than a bicycle.
Instead of PAYING $40 a barrel for foreign oil, how about we TELL OPEC the price is now $20. We'd have to tighten our belts for awhile and pump out some of our strategic reserves, but I don't think this would last too long. The folks in SandLand wouldn't have our petrodollars to buy food and all the other things they can't/don't know how to make. Just my $.02......
Every time there is a spike in oil prices like this the oil companies report record earnings....wonder why? The last time gas prices went up this quick the gov. was going to investigate gas prices and all of a sudden prices began to come down. They need to threaten them again. It's all a racket. That's my 6 9/10 cents. It used to be 2 but it just went up!
i'm surprised our crooked government isn't stealing crude from the Iraqs right now. I thought that was the big plan behind the war. I got to admit this is about the dumbest event we have been involved in.
My bike still gets ?mpg. But after I take the offer that I have, I won't be living within riding distance. Maybe one of those small motorbikes will be worthwhile...
Build more refineries. Supply will increase and price will decrease.
Mike
It doesn't have anything to do with supply and demand, even though the oil companies would like people to think that. Heard on the radio the other day that crude oil prices are the highest they've been since 1990 or 1992. Funny, I don't remember gas prices being over $2.20/gal back then. I can drive by a gas station in the morning and it's one price, drive by on my way home and it's up a penny. In the morning on the way to work, it's up another penny. Or, the other way I've seen it is a station will leave prices alone for 2 days then jump .05 at a time.
It was only 2 or 3 years ago when I was paying less than .90/gal.

I find all you people compaining about high gas prises when you are driving gas guzzling v-8's. Before you compain go look at how much people in the uk and europe pay for gas. Gas is a vital natural resource and should be expensive other wize people will waist. You know that gas is to cheap when house wives are driving around in excusions and expeditions and men are driving v-8 trucks like cars. If you don't like the price of gas buy a vw desiel
Some of us folks own older rigs and can't afford to buy new ones. I live in an area that is considered one of the highest risk areas for accidents. We've been there for 15 years and the area has grown out of control. I see at least 3 to 6 fatalities each year if not more. My family choices to drive big heavy vehicles for health insurance purposes.
High gas prices are just hurting us lower income families that can't just go buy a new car. I guess I would rather pay more than to drive a tiny car that risks my life each time I drive to work.
Actually, you DON"T have a reason to complain. You made the choice. The great thing about living here is you have that freedom to choose. But no one ever said that your choice would not cost.
TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
If you want a bigger car/truck, the price to move something bigger is more fuel. I pay it, no complaints. I made my choice.
Keep the car/truck in good shape, so it gets as good as it can. Use it when you need it, pay the price and smile...it is your choice.
Yea well some of us dont have a choice on what we drive, for its all we can afford. My parents wouldnt let me get a small car, they wanted me to get a big truck and they picked out my 76 4x4. Now I love my truck but it gets 6 mpg, but we couldnt afford any thing newer. Im working this summer to get a newer truck, but I have to have a truck cause its how I make money on top of a job. I wouldnt be able to do the things that I do with my truck (hauling sand, dirt, manure, rocks, gravel) in a little civic. So for some of us its a little more complicated than just selling the truck and getting a smaller car.
Definately agree. I think some people either have forgotten what it's like, or have never known what it's like to not be able to just go out and buy whatever you want. I'd love to be able to buy my wife an escape Hybrid when it comes out. But then if I could afford to buy that, gas prices wouldn't really be a concern to me. Some of us need our trucks. I use mine as a truck for hunting and pulling a boat.
Calgary Redneck, do you ever post anything positive? Why are you even here, all you ever do us post negative comments towards other members. You all should take a look at his posting history and you'll know what I mean. There is no room here for someone that doesn't have anything good to say.
I never said that anyone should get rid of anything.... Unless they want to.
I drive my full size truck, I get better than 6, but I don't get what a honda does either. My wife and I found that every time we got a 4 cyl car, we tore it up (usually by overloading it) So I figure what I save in repairs MORE than pays for the extra gas.
And wezol5484, you ARE making your choice. You are working this summer to get a newer truck. My point is that you have the freedom to choose, but you may need to pay for your choice.
Guess I just always found it funny when people both want a big car and gas mileage Gas in the US is still cheap. We went to Japan last summer. Rougly 1.50 a litre or $6.00/gal. Not a wonder they all drive REALLY small cars or take a train.
