Here I am again. The long and short of it all is that my `92, 7.3 Navistar has crapped out on me. It needs new/rebuilt heads. Does anyone know if a Powerstroke or a Powerstroke with a turbo will fit into my truck with little or no changes? Mine is a 5 spd. I need to know if the transmission/bellhousing will bolt up, are the motor mounts the same, exhaust system the same, any ignition /computer changes that need to be made? If it is going to be a real expense or hassel, I'll try to find a used Navistar engine. I would love a powerstroke. If anyone knows, I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
as far as I know the blocks are the same. I have also heard of some rebuilders setting the remanufactering the engines to support the turbo.but I it was second hand info.
as for the turbo unit you'd have to setup everything else which I havn't done. so I'd wait for others to post their thoughs here and ask around a little more
well you and I have the same idea .. putting another motor in our trucks..I have a 93 F250 S/C 4x4 with 259,000km or about 155400 miles on it, the motor is still running great but I need more power for towing... I have looked into the matter her in norhtern Canada..
the motor that will be put in (if and when I go ahead with it ) is the same motor as I have now only rebuilt , basicly new, gone over with fine tooth comb and checked out. the motor will be turboed with a banks turbo complete with 3 or 3 1/2 " exhaust, K&N air filter, all the gauges and the trany electornics kit, this banks kit is the prememuim kit( all the put in now). the motor will come with new injectors, water pump, glow plugs, oil pan, valve covers, and back plate. the items being taken from my moter are.. both pumps (fuel and injector), starter, injector lines, all pullies and brackets. the cost of all this is aproximatly $13,000.00 including labor and taxes.
hope this helps you out
Your '92 does not have computer controls for the engine. The Powerstroke is computer controlled. You'll need the computer and the wiring to make this work. It isn't easy, but it can be done.
