What advance cam does it have in it? If it is a 13L you might be able to get about $40 if it is in very good condition. Distributors are really a dime a dozen. I don't think the CJ engines had special casting numbers. I know the design was pretty much the same as any old stock dizzy.
Sean, sorry I didn’t mean to sound like I was correcting you. Looking back it sure reads that way. I was just typing the dialog going on in my head, not that it was being directed out towards anyone. It’s hard to read the tone, flavor and intent and I apologize to you and anyone who reads me that way.
About the distributor, there is nothing special about it except for the unique numbers for a CJ. It has the 10/15 cam and uses the 15 slot. That gives you 30 on the crank plus 6 initial for 36 total. Actually it’s a little less ‘cause the rubber sleeve over the stop cuts back about 2 degrees. There may be more than two dizzys but I’m only looking at the early books.
It is hard to read the tone becasue that was a genuine thanks Barry! I never get mad when I am learning. I have little respect for people who cannot handle a polite correction. I learn something new here about every day!
Thank you for spending your time here and helping people out!
U5A, it depends. Distributors aren't really that special of an item. I wouldn't have a use for one because I run the duraspark dizzy. But to someone who is trying to put together a numbers correct 428CJ, it might be worth a bunch. There are single and dual diaphram units, and some have dual points as well. The question is how do you find the select few guys that have a 428CJ car and want what you have ? I would bet that a newspaper ad isn't the best way. But an ad in hemmings motor news, or a mustang or ford magazine might do well. DF
Oh, ok Sean, thanks! Guess I'm getting a little gun-shy after what happened here a couple days ago.
unit5alive, what's the casting number on your dizzy? There's also a date code right below the 12127. AFAICT, dual vacuums for autos was a '70 thing, same goes for the dual point.
Knowing the casting number along with the date code will help you sell it to someone building a numbers correct engine. Ebay is another option too.
