I have a 97 Mazda B4000 that doesn't want to shift into gear easily. the truck only has 52,000 miles and about half of them are highway miles. Would this be my clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder or possible both?
Welcome to FTE.
How's the fluid level? OK?
Check for leaking inside the cab where the rod goes into the master.
Check for leaking at the bottom front of the bellhousing.(slave)
Try pumping the clutch pedal a few times, then try to put it in gear. If that seems to work, then that should be the master failing.
No leaking that I can see neither inside at the master cylinder or outside at the bell housing. Pumping the clutch doesn't seem to help any, I have watched the cylinder actuate through the inspection holes in the top and side of the trans and it looks to be moving ok. How far is the pressure plate suppose to move when the clutch is depressed?
I replaced the slave cylinder after I found some oil on the cylinder assy. but the trans still doesn't shift smoothly. When I had the trans out I couldn't find any thing wrong withit and it shifted fine. out of the truck. Is there some adjustments that can be made? I could use some help because I need to get the truck going for next week.
Yes the fluid level if fine I just can not find any thing wrong with the transmission that would keep if from shifting poorly. thank for trying to help.
My friends B4000 had the same symptoms. He was all prepared to drop the transmission to see what was happening when by chance he looked under the dash at the clutch pedal assembly. Hard to explain but a cast metal piece of the clutch pedal assembly had broken causing it to "flex" each time the clutch was depressed. This flex had the same effect as if you didn't push the clutch in the whole way, thus causing all kinds of shifting problems. I think a new clutch pedal assembly was around $100 bucks and a little frustration with the install, but still better than dropping the whole transmission. Have a look at it.
Are there any squealing sounds? This could be an indication of a failing pilot bearing. Has it always been like this or is it a new problem? Is it all gears?
I wiil check the clutch pedal assy to see if it has broken and there is no sqealing of any sorts. I never thought of checking the pedal assy and I did check sthe pilot bearing when I had the transmission out. Thanks for the idea's, hoefully his is the problem so that I can get it fixed. Thanks for the help
