Hey,
Tonight I was driving my truck, 86 f-250 4wd, when the front left tire and wheel came off. Luckily I think the only thing I need to replace is my rotor. I did not find a real good description of how to replace the rotor in my chiltons manual and was wondering how i would go about it. The reason i need to finish it quick is because i am selling the truck day after tomorrow. SO PLEASE HELP
I could be wrong because I don't know how the 4wd F250s are but I think you take the tire off (seems you have already done that ) then you take your caliper off. Your rotor should just slide off, put the new one on. The loosen your bleeder screw, push your caliper back in the tighten the screw. Put your caliper back on and put yourtire back.
Those are just basic instructions. I am surprised the manual didn't have it.
Chances are that you're gonna need to remove some of the locking mechanism crap to get the rotor off. It is the 2wds that come off with just taking off the caliper. It probably isn't gonna be as easy as we all hope. Best I can reccomend is to lift your truck, and start poking around. Make sure to only take one side apart at a time, the last thing you want to do is have 2 sides torn aparts, and no memory how it goes back together. At least this way you can use one side as a template if need be.
If you have to take the locking mechanism off, make sure to clean it piece by piece as you take it apart, and to lube it back up when it goes back together. Get a flat of cardboard and put the pieces on that, in the order they were removed.
Good luck, and keep us informed,
Len
P.S. Can you just change the studs while the rotor is still on the truck?
Done, It really wasnt too bad. Yes, there is a lot of crap to take apart, all the 4wd stuff. And you have to have the proper socket to get the inner nut out. Which the socket is $20 at NAPA. But other wise it aint to bad.
