Yes, 'tis a curse that feel upon mee unreadied head but a few days ago! Mee truck and I was drivin' down the highway when outta nowhere comes a black smog from the underins' of the yee 'ol six banger. In fact the only way I came upon knowin' of was 'cause mee lady was followin' me in 'er Honda. She proclaimed,"Hey, I see some black smoke come out from your exhaust when you were shifting." "AAaaaaarrrggghh!" said I! And into the parkin' lot we went. Upon checkin' the yee 'ol exhaust I found nuthin' wrong. What be the problem yee ask? I dunno...that's why I'm askin' you. Any of yee young scaleewags know? I figured it be the chip just doin' it's job, but I was but'a wonderin.
Uh, blowing smoke when shifting? seems like an obvious answer. There's only one thing it could be and that's oil leaking into your combustion chamber. Worn piston rings or the like. How many miles yee got on er'? Many times, thicker oil will create more compression and keep the oil at bay.
nope black smoke means you are running rich and dumping to much gas into the cylinders. Blue smoke means you are burning oil. You probably have a bad fuel pressure regulator.
5 years from now, we'll still be talking about that freakin' voltage regulator. I think Joe actually started that one. Still, and oldie but always a goodie
Seriously though...
A) What does it smell like?
B) Does it emit smoke while idling (sp?)?
C) While in park (or in N w/ the E-brake on) does it smoke if you rev the engine?
D) Does it go away after the truck has warmed up?
Wouldn't an emissions testing facility provide you with a print out of all your toxin gas levels in bar or line graph and indicate which particular gas level is higher than normal and so forth. Emissions tests down here used to give as a nice print out and it was only 35 bucks. Takes all the guess work out. i.e. does it smoke when your chair is reclined with the truck in park and the emergency brake on with the tailgate down and the sliding back window open and the drivers side window 3/4's rolled down. I mean, why the guess work when you can be certain for 35 bucks. Are we all THAT broke?
Joe, you haven't posted anything since you've created this thread. What do you think? (ha ha, that's an oxymoron.......Joe & think in the same sentance)
