hey there,
i'm new here so please bear with me. I'm getting a code 67 in the KOEO test. The book says it's a neutral pressure switch malfunction. Where is this switch and what does it do? How would I go about testing it? The truck is an '86 ranger 2.9, manual trans, stripped model with a utility bed. Occasionaly it bucks on acceleration and has a constant muffled backfire under deceleration (sounds like a coffemaker running out of water). I have replaced the idle air valve, egr,egr position sensor, egr vacuum control valve and 02 sensor. I get an 11 on the continuous memory and have not run the timing or KOER because of the 67 code. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am trying to smog this thing in Ca.
Thanks, Chris
Iwould'nt worry about the 67 for now. The popping while coasting does sound like retarded ignition timing. Warm the engine up, remove the spout connector & check for 10 degrees BTDC with your timing light.
The 67 went away after it warmed up. I ran the timing check-it's O.K. then the KOEO and got a 25 code-knock sensor. Would a faulty knock sensor put the computer in some kind of default or "limp home" mode thereby causing the popping under deceleration?
