CD player mounting kits.

Down at walmart I saw they had the harnesses and the plastic mount kits for 73+ fords, jeeps, etc. On the back though for F-series it said 1980+. So now would those still work in my '77? Or do I need to just rig up somethin myself? I'd think they'd be the same.

I just bought a GM kit and hacked it up. I only used the ring out of it than I made brackets on it to mount it in the dash.

Just completed mounting on a '79. Used the same kit you are talking about.

However, alot of extra work. First had to remove the metal bracket that supports the factory radio and heater controls. I then cut off the bottom piece that holds the radio, leaving two tabs hanging down below the heater controls. On the tabs drill a hole as close to the bend as possible.

Then remounted this piece and the controls.

In the kit you are referring two there are a mulitude of parts.
Take part FRB-534 (Main Bracket) and break off all the parts except the tab on the bottom (refer Page 8 in instructions). The tabs are designed to break off. Then take the two J-1 (jeep Wrangler Brackets) and slot them into the slots at the top of the FRB-534. Break off the top of the brackets so as there is just one mountiing hole. Mount these brackets to the holes drilled into the heater bracket.

This part I have not done yet, but for more support you can drill holes in the dash where the bottom bracket that you left on the FRB-534 and screw to the dash.

Cut out the plastic dash. For my install there was only a little to cut out. A bit along the bottom and the sides of course.

Put it all back together with a back support (Usually comes with the radio).

I have been driving without any problems for the last week, however have not been out on the back roads to really test out.

Jay
