Question Explorer vs. Jimmy

what do you all think is better a 1993 jimmy or a 1993 explorer?

Depends which motor the Jimmy has. If it's the 2.8L V6, it's a gutless wonder. I've seen 4 cylinder Fords with more oomph than that thing. To be fair, I dont know when the 2.8 was discontinued. If it's the 4.3L V6, I'd have to say toss up. I dont recall ever seeing 4-door Jimmy's. I could be wrong though.

One thing I do know, is that my '92 explorer has 193,300 miles and is still going strong. I've seen my fair share of company Astro vans (not me driving them BTW, I just worked there) with 4.3's shuck out with a little over 100k miles on 'em. Before they went they'd make this loud obnoxious clacking noise that could be heard well clear across the parking lot.

I'd have to say the Explorer is better.

The Blazer is an absolute rust-bucket in our neck of the woods. You'll get some rust on the Explorer, but nowhere near as much. If you use the back seat a lot, make sure you sit in both. You'll be amazed how much more room there is in the Ford.

Hands down I would defintally say the Explorer I have a 91' I sold to a family member that has 250000 miles and still going strong on orig. Engine and trans. no probs. And the 4.0 V6 deff. has enough umpth.

The only thing the Jimmy has is a bit smoother ride and a bit more oomph. The explorer has much better seats front and back, the Jimmy feels like your sitting on the floor in comparison. The explorer is wider and has more room. The Jimmy is just plain cheap and you feel like your going to break everything you touch. Explorers aren't perfect, especially the 91 and 92 models had some issues, but by 93 they were all ironed out. Our 92 we used to have started having problems at 110K miles, (long list including tranny, and intake manifold gasket), but it was one heck of a 4x4. Dad now has a 96 with the OHV 4.0. Not lots of power, but has never let him down and he's now up to 120K. I've known a few people with Blazers/Jimmy's, one in particular had previoiusly owned explorers, and realized the mistake he'd made with the Blazer.
In a nut shell, there's a reason the Explorer/Mountaineer outsold Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada by a good margin, they are much better vehicles.

When

I worked for A coal Broker back in the 90's we had 2 Explorers, 2 Blazers, and 4 (if I remember Correctly ) Cherokees.. If I had to take a long trip, The Explorer won Hands down, although weak in the power department, It was definitley the confy one to have, rode nice as well. However, when it came Running the Strip Jobs Chasing drilling crews.. It seemed to have more Front End Problems than all the others Combined..Seemed to Eat Front Wheel Bearings, Rotors were Constantly needing turned, and 4-wheel drive worked if it felt like it. (this is on the one we took out in the field).
However, it very easily could have just been the one we had.. we were admittedly Hard on them, But the others seemed to take the ABuse in stride, although not as comftorably.

My nieghbor has a 4 door jimmy. 93 with the 4.3L v6. Its ok but after they stopped making the true blazers with from the 80's with the 305 and 350s. They were good blazers. They did however rust alot after so many years.
