Alrighty, I need some advice here. I've got the chance to buy a 429HO (old Boss motor). Right now the motor is in an old 77 pickup (real rustbucket), It runs fine, drives fine. What I'm wanting to do is transplant the thing to my '83 halfer. The Headers that are on the 429 are blown out. So I'm going to need new headers. I'm also wanting a Rebuild kit if possible.
Any Idea where I can get these supplies? (online or elswhere in the State of Iowa)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-15-03 AT 01:33 PM (EST)]Are you sure that's a 429 Boss in that truck, you better check!! People in there right mind just don't put that kind of engine in a truck, plus there to rare. If it is how much is the price? It should look like the pic below for the most part, Valve covers give it away.
I agree with Fordzzzz77, Boss 429s are rare pieces indeed. You could put a significant dent in the cost of a brand new truck with what a true Boss 429 would sell for on eBay.
As far as parts to swap a 429 into your truck try [link:www.landlproducts.com|L&L Products] for conversion parts including headers. PAW, Summit Racing and Nothern Auto Parts all sell rebuild kits for 429s.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-15-03 AT 02:36 PM (EST)]I'm fairly sure it's a boss 429, The guy I'm buying it from used to build drag cars and trucks... He was in one to many wrecks and so he retired... We've worked together for 5+ years and I trust him completely. He's selling me most of his tools as well.
But, I'm still not entirely sure it's a BOSS 429, it might just be a 429HO (if there was such a thing, that's what the tags say)
so I'm have a collector check it over for me.
He's giving me quite a deal on the motor, (he's not exactly strapping for cash) I'm getting the whole truck (working drivetrain and all) for under 3k.
Edit: It does have the Boss valve covers, though it is possible to put those on, The fellow I'm buying it off of doesn't know for sure, the guy he bought it from said it was a 429 BOSS, so... We'll see.

Okay, I just got a e-mail back from my friend, Bad news, it's not a BOSS 429, it just had the boss valve covers.
I called my other pal and I think I'll be able to get it for less, around 1k, so I think I'm going to go for it. It does have performance ported heads, and a racing carb setup, so I don't think I'll be out anything. It's just the thing my ailing 83' halfton needs.
429HO... It's going to be a fun rebuild... I'm going to put a 4.10 rear-end on her. With a 4-speed manual she'll really fly!
I had one of my friends run over and look at it, he ran the numbers, it is for sure not a boss 429, it's just a 429HO with Boss valve covers.
What is the literage on a 429 BTW, and does anyone know the stock HP on the HO version? I'm probably going to Dyno the sucker before I rebuild it, but I'd like to know the stock numbers.
The casting number for the block is C9AE-E. There could be another but not sure. 429 Boss valve covers will not fit base 429 or CJ heads, There way to big! Won't even come close. There should be a sticker on the valve cover saying Boss 429. Spark plugs run through the valve covers is another way to tell. Post a pic of the engine, We will tell ya!
