Question Uh Oh, Dead Battery

Hi guys, I have a problem maybe somebody else has previously dealt with. I have a 289 from a 67 Mustang in my 54 f100. Yesterday was hot, so when we went to the local cruise 30 minutes away, we ran the A/C. When we went to leave 4 hours later, the battery would not turn over the engine. Luckily somebody helped us out with a jump. It ran fine all the way home with the headlights bright. We did not use the A/C on the way home. The truck has a lot of electrical components: Electric fan, fuel pump, stereo, A/C and of course the normal blinkers and such. The Alternator is putting out 14.1 volts at idle. The battery is 12.1 v with engine off. I think I just have more demand than supply. Any suggestions on how to check for amperage output?
Can I just check for voltage as it idles and gradually add more components to see if the voltage drops?? Thanks, John

Wow, I guess my problem was just so common that nobody wanted to reply. Just an update to complete the thread, I checked the voltage last night with different components turned on. 14.5 with just the headlights, add the stereo and it's still 14.5. With the A/C on it was 13.1. All readings at idle. So, it seemed like the problem was the battery (2 years old). Sure enough, after eight hours on the charger, it still showed the specific gravity of the electrolite at minimum. So I'm off to the store for a replacement. John
