Chip comparision

Hey guys I like what I have heard about Superchips and Hypertech however I am not wanting to spend $3-400 on the truck I have now. I only plan to have it a year or two more. I found a guy who has a Jet Performance Module and don't know a lot about them other than it is designed to run at 89 Octane which might be a good thing because that is typically the cheapest gas here in Iowa. What are your thoughts on the Jet Chips? Any other ideas on increasing performance for $100-150 max would be great. I am looking for HP, Tourque, and MPG just like everyone else.

Thanks

Tadd

Jets are not well spoke of on this site because they offer a generic tune that only helps at wide open throttle. For everyday driving, it will make no diference. Diablo and superchips however are tuned for your specific computer code on your truck. You can get them custom tuned for mods or the basic performance tune that is tuned for premium gas, which advances timing, adjust the fuel mixture and firms the shifting of automatics. I have the diablo and love it. It was $229 of of motorhaven. CLick on the words "PARTS SHOP" at the top right of this page. It makes everyday driveability much better, and has added a slight mileage gain if I keep my foot out of it. At full throttle the acceleration is much better with it giving good low RPM torque, and helping it pull harder through the upper RPM's where many truck motors start to taper off. If you want power, you need to get it tuned for premium gas, to me worth the cost for the performance gain. Not sure what kinda truck you have, but you should be able to get an intake for under $150.

Truck

Sorry I should have posted what I have. I have a 99 f150 Xcab 4X4 with the 5.4 L. I have a K&N Filter (Not the full intake). The intake gave me a little more power but as we all say - Is that enough?

An intake will give much better flow than just the filter, but any power gained will be at the top end where you'd only notice it if racing. If it is a cold air intake, the kind with a heat shield, or you could fab up your own aribox or heat shiled and insulate the intake, it will help keep the intake air temperatures cooler resulting in denser air which means more air, allowing you to get more power and a more efficiant air-furl mixture. From what I've read, the 5.4 responds very well to a chip. You could probablay expect 20-25 HP and 30-40 ft-lbs, depending on the gas ocatne available in your area. I know a couple guys here also like the Superchips Microtuner for their 5.4's, but that is aobut 2x as much as a chip.
