Hey All. I wanted to get your opinions on my 360-? FE build. I have my block in at the machine shop for .060 bore and cleanup. I have new pistons and 390 rods. The big ? is, since I havn't purchased the crank yet, what is the most optimal for high perf street application? (70 f 100 2WD) Should I just go with the 390 crank or look for something bigger? Anyone's input is greatly appreciated! Eric
Because you already have the pistons and rods, go 390 or upgrade to the 428 crank (410 CI). Of course, surely there is a stroker crank you may want to entertain...
O.K. If I'm not mistaken, the rods for a 390-428 are the same. Are the pistons the same? If YOU had the choice, would you go with a 390 crank or a 428 crank, why? I'm looking at a stroker 428 that I might buy if it will work O.K. with my 390 rods/pistons. Any input is greatly appreciated.
428 pistons have a shorter pin height. Pin height is the distance from the top of the piston to the wrist pin center line. They are also 4.13" bore, a 390 is 4.05".
Montana, it depends on which pistons you already have. Some '390' pistons will work with the 428 crank and lots will not. Can you give us a part number ? And there is cost, in my area you can find a 390 crank for less than 100$. Buying a new 428 crank would cost about 4-500$. DF
