this is driving me crazy, i am tring to figure out why after changeing, my calipers, caliper hardware shoes, rattle clips the whole shbang does the truck still pull left.my front end is tight, new ball joints, drag link, tie rods. excellent tires. when driving and let go of the whell truck stays dead straight. oh.. i even replaced both brake hoses think maybe one was rotted inside, but it still pulls...i have even bleed them three or four tuimes nothing..PLEASE HELP !!
Did you by chance replace the rotors or have them looked at? The rotors are notorious for warping bad when you hit the brakes really hard just once. The previous owner changed the rotors on my truck just before I bought it because of this reason. And warped rotors would definitely cause your truck to pull one way or the other when applying the brakes.
as said above, does it pull when u let ur hands off the wheel? when u brake lightly? brake hard???
a warped rotor will def. cause this as would an out of alligned front end. also check ur raduis arm bushings, mines goin bad and it pulls to the right...and my rotor is warped on the same side so it makes driving tricky...
it pulls real hard when braking only...let go of the wheel and she is dead on...i remember buying cheap rotors last time they went bad..i am going to get brand new ..either bendix or raybestos ...no more advanced auto made in china bull****
Check your tie rod joints, ball joints, and bushings. If any are bad or loose your alignment will shift when you brake. Even if your brakes are working corectly you have to have a solid connection to the frame and steering system.
Your description does sound like something in the brakes. If it is, check everything in the front brakes first since they do the majority of the braking and will cause the most pull. A bad caliper will cuase a pull due to uneven braking. They are fairly cheap to replace. If you have 4wd block all the tires up and run it in 4wd and see which tire stops when applying brakes. That may get you started on the right culprit. You might also guess by assuming that the brakes that are not working are on the side that the truck pulls away from.
Um, I don't see it here. Your vehicle can also be made to pull to one side or the other if one of the REAR brakes isn't pulling like it should. Your front brakes might be fine......
Hmmm. I have the same freakin issue. Except mine pulls the right whilst driving as well. This is after driving it away from the allignment shop, after having front brakes done, tie-rods ends, radius arm bushings, and a full alignment (with printed data sheet) done. This shop is an excellent shop as well, run by a good racing family (races in Can-Am Midget series). I haven't driven it since then (Tuesday), but I'm bringing it to work tomorrow, so I'll get a better feel for it, and maybe check it over.
switch the front tires and see if it pulls the other way. Quickest way to tell if you have a bad tire.
Had that issue with my 90. Tires looked great, we did everything just like you did and just on a lark, we switched the tires. Lo and behold, the pull changed direction. We replaced the front tires and eliminated the problem. Later I discovered one of my tow drivers had popped a curb with the bad tire. We figure it must have ripped one of the cords internally in the tire.
Also check tire pressure, a low tire will cause a pull also, If the problem is in the brakes, the opposite side of the vehicle is usually the culprit, if it is in a tire, I believe it is in the side that is pulling. I second Skyforum on thie tire issue, broken belts.
My 1989 F150 4x4 did the same thing, only mine pulled to the right all the time. It was, however, a lot worse when I applied the brakes.
My alignment guy had to replace the radius arm bushing on the right side to fix the castor. Now it's fine, but it's starting to pull to the left so I will have to get that side done as well.
