After reading lotsa threads about the 6.0's and what's best, I took Tim's and others advice and purchased a case of Stanadyne. First, I have checked every tanks milage and for the last 4, it's been 15.1 to 15.3 including one 300 mile trip with hyway only. I filled up Sunday morning with Stanadyne in the tank and went to Big Bear for breakfast. This meant climbing to 8400 ft. When I was almost home I filled up again and got 17.1 mpg. I didn't drive any different in fact I probably drove a little faster than I normally do. If this will continue, I'm impressed. 1-04 build SD-250-CC-2WD (checked for water in fuel found none)
Is it O.K. to run Stanadyne in the tank with a brand new truck or does it need to be broken in at all first. Just wondering. I should have my new PSD in about three weeks and I was planning on running with Stanadyne in it.
I put it in with 1400 miles on it. I'm using Tim's example since the truck will not be driven that much and mostly for towing....I'm trying to put some miles on it on the weekends to find any problems, so far one very minor one. I won't drive to work because it's only 5 miles.
Personally, my experience with Standyne Performance Formula is that it pays for itself with the increased mileage. I generally break even with the increase in mileage. Of course by running the additive you raise the cetane by a few points and keep the fuel system clean. I like to fill my fuel bowl with the Lubricity Formula when I change the fuel filter. Any of you 6.0 guys use the Lubricity Formula?

It is OK from the day you drive it off the show room floor, and all year long.
How much does that stuff run you per bottle and how much does a bottle treat? I can only get Power Services stuff not sure I am willing to drive 2 hours to get Syandyne. Although it would give me an excuse to drive my truck.
You can always buy it from Diesel Injection Service. www.dieselpage.com
The Performance Formula is $4.58/pint and it treats 60 gallons. The Lubricity Formula is $4.25/pint and it treats 120 gallons. If you buy enough at once the shipping isn't that bad. I usually play around with the quantity to get the most bang for my buck. They also sell fuel filters.

John have you found any difference in the two formulas.
Real world difference?

Definately. The performance formula increases mileage and gives a little bit more power with the cetane boost. The minute I start my truck after having filled the fuel bowl with the lubricity formula it runs quieter and smoother. The lubricity formula is formulated to clean and lubricate so there is no cetane booster. That's why I use the performance formula normally and the lubricity formula as an added cleaner every 10K when I change my fuel filter.
Now I understand, not one or the other.....the combination of the two……cool.
My, misunderstanding was the Performance Formula had everything the others did.
That is what generated the question.
Since I haven't changed my filters yet, is the fuel bowl whats left when you remove the upper or engine fuel filter? Fill it first, like the oil filter? Thanks

The Performance Formula contains everything except the highly concentrated lubricant. Here's a comparison of all their additives:

The info I got from Ford engineers at a Powerstroke demo day was to take a syringe and evacuate the diesel in the fuel bowl on the small filter. When you get everything replaced, just cycle the key on for 30 seconds three times. I waited 15 seconds inbetween cycles then started it on the fourth. Worked fine.
