I have just purchased a 91 Ranger 4 cylinder with 45000 miles-The fuel and temp gauge both don't work-Is there a harness with just those two somewhere than could be unplugged? If not where does that temp gauge go to sense engine temp? Thanks to anyone who can help!
I don't think the two are related. The temp sendor is on the drivers side of the engine, has one wire, try grounding it and see if the gauge pegs. if it does then the sendor is bad. Do the same to test the fuel gauge.
hey charles mine is the same way my 40+ year experience mecahnic say it most likely the viborator its on the back of the gauge cluster and it runs both hey says that what it most likely is becuase the gas guage trys to work when the key ius off. I hade to try 3 times to get help at ford and all we came up with 75.00 for the only thing back there. My mechanic hasn,t had time to conferm it yet though he said if you put a tester on it some where it will fliker in stead of burn.
I would check the sender first since it is the easiest to do. Sounds like a burned up regulator on the back of the cluster to me too though. If you pull the cluster out and look on the left side there should be a small "box" that is removable. You'll probably see that it looks burnt.
O.k.-I guess the "sender" is what I was asking-I used to be able to spot 'em on my old muscle cars easily but was unable to find it on this Ranger. Thanks
