I have a F350 2000 P/S and it has fuel cackle . It seems to be mostly a highway speed and each time I take it to the dealer it seems to disappear. Thanks for the info as I will be more persauive now. My problem is front brake rotors. They have been turned twice in 50000 Km ( 30000 miles). I am trying to get Ford to restart my warrantee on the front brakes. Any suggestions. Tom
If your truck was assembled in Mexico, in all likelyhood, it has a Power Stroke engine built by Maxion in Brazil under license from Navistar. There should be a serial number label on the driver's side valve cover. If you post that number I can tell you where the engine was built.
Correction to my PSD label:
It reads CANOAS rather than CANDAS.
After a little internet research, I've verified that Joe is correct, my PSD was mfg in Brazil by Maxion.

You can also check the 1st digit of your VIN to determine where your truck was assembled (1=US, 2=Canada,3=Mexico).
Assuming that the Oct 2000 date on my engine is the date of mfg, What is last years PSD doing in a truck I custom ordered last month?
If the answer is that the engine was probably pulled out of an inventory somewhere, then in all likelyhood is it fair to say that I do not have the LL#8 fix (which explains why my truck sounds like I've thrown a rod)?
Hi Joe: My PSD # on the engine cover is 1198498 and the label on the windshield says my truck was built in Kentucky Truck plant. Also my truck is a special order. Tom
For allmyxsliveintx: Yours is indeed a Brazilian made engine. I don't know if they are using the LL#8 injector or not but it is my understanding that the LL#8 system takes a different ECM. So if you get the part number off the ECM and ask the parts man at the dealership, he should be able to tell you if it is a LL#8 ECM or not. Not knowing how they do business in Brazil, I have no way of knowing why you don't have a currently built engine in your currently built truck. I can assure you this "cackle" is only an annoyance and won't hurt anything (turn up the stereo).
For Tesler: Your engine came from the Indianapolis Navistar Plant. I'll take your serial number to work and see if it is still in the system (it may have been archived in which case I won't be able to retrive any information on it). I won't be back to work until Wednesday 5/30/01. I know this cackle is annoying but it is not a problem as far as damage to the engine is concerned. We all know that diesels rattle. Our engineers are working on quieting the noise down but not on this engine. As far as I know nothing more is going to be done about cackle on this engine. And from what I know (which is very little) the LL#8 injector doesn't help cackle much. Our engineers have told me that the LL#8 injector has cured cackle, but in so doing uncovered another noise. I've got a pretty good ear for identifying unusual engine sounds and I can tell you that the sound that they claim to have cured is the same sound that they now say has been uncovered. They are not telling the truth. On the other side of the coin, our engine with cackle is still quieter than the Cummins engine. So, you're just going to have to put up with it until the 2003's come out in August of next year.
>... On the other side of the coin, our engine with cackle is still quieter than the Cummins engine.
Heck yes. There's a guy with a Dodge Cummins at my church, and the racket is incredible. I like the sound of my PSD, it's a healthy diesel sound. It's a little louder than I'd like, but it's reasonable.
The Cummins literally sounds like somebody dropped a bunch of marbles in the intake manifold and it's slowly beating them into chunks in there. I wonder what it sounds like when it's cold in the morning?
Tesler: Your engine was built, tested and shipped 11/16/99, went straight through the system and out the back door without a hitch (that's good). It was tested one time and showed 192.3 horsepower which is good for the first time out (we are running old programing in our test cells which will give a lower horsepower than indicated on the exhaust emmisions label).
my power stroke has a problem i was wandering about some times when you flore it like to get out in traffic the acelarotor does not respond and you are stuck it is real dangerous i almost got hit once also the check engine lite comes on
Jack:
Your engine was built 4/9/01, tested and shipped the same day. The numbers look above average and horse power is about average which probably means it is (was) a little tight when it was tested. No defects recorded, it went straight out the back door.
wildjon:
Your engine was built, tested and shipped 3/11/99. It also went straight out the back door, which is good but the performance data has been archived and I can't access it.
jdobbs:
If you are getting a check engine light, it is storing a code in the computer. You need to find out what that code is and fix it. If you have more than one code, service the first code first (the others may go away). It is probably your throttle position sensor but to be sure you need those codes.
