I have seen some of this tossed around, but am hoping to get a somewhat definitive answer here so I can start working toward this. The cackle in my truck is really loud and I would like to quiet it down as much as possible. I do think the majority of what I'm hearing is coming from the starved #8 injector. I am already running Schaeffer's 9000 Full Synthetic. From what I have gathered by searching on here it sounds like I need to do the in-tank mods and FRx.
I guess my question is, which has the most impact on cackle reduction?Should I do one first to see how much difference it makes before doing the other?
The in-tank and pre pump mods reduced the cackle in my 7.3L. Running a 10% bio mix quited it down even more, but I can't run bio during the winter up here.
you might ask you Schaeffer's rep if you can get a sample of Schaeffer's Soyshield fuel additive to try. It doesn't have as high of a treatment ratio as the Dieseltreat does but I noticed it had a similar affect on cackle as 10% bio did.
Thanks for the input guys. Jeremy, you and I seem to be on the same page about things often-times.
Well I also run the 9000 oil the motor is smooth its just now I can hear other noises, and it bothers me. I would just like to know if the FRx and the HPx will make that much difference before having to drop the tank.. Maybe we think alike....... could be scary

dropping the tank is a neccesary evil in this department. you have to get rid of the mixing valve and the connection at the tank to help rid the fuel lines of air and a regulated return will do wonders for your truck. other than my bts trans the reg retun is by far the best money i have spent on my rig. anyone that gets one will absolutely love the results.......
In tank mods ( about a day before it got a bit quieter )
HP oil cross over ( almost imediatly a sound level difference)
Fuel cross over with regulator ( have not done myself, based on others )
Also look for up pipe leaks
Look at the EBPS tube, if this has a hole in it, you will get a little extra noise from her.
NONE of this makes it as quiet as a car though..
And sometimes, an open valve cover and a torque wrench for injectors and rockers.. Good Luck!!

I just don't have $500 bucks for a reg return. Would the in tank mod be better then the Frx or the HPx?

500.00?
My opinion, the in tank mod did a decent job, as well as the HPX. when I get off my ****, I might try the FRX, but I am not sure that it is needed now that I did the intank.
For me, the in-tank mods helped very slightly. The FRX helped just a tad more. I didn't notice any noise difference with the HPX, but it did smooth out the idle some. The biggest difference in cackle is dependant on which tune I'm running and the oil temp.
Like Clay said in a different thread, some feel they make a significant change, and some don't notice much at all.

I saw a kit for just under $500 for the reg return. I just cann't sem to find it now.
