need ideas for a cheap ford rwd car

I need ideas for a cheap (meaning non-desireable) ford RWD car that will take a v8 (probably a 302) and a maybe a manual transmission.

I'm looking for the type of car thats not really worth anything or collectable.
A $200 driveaway type car, or a tow it away free type car

Its destined to be a car club owned car thats purpose will be carrying the car club banner, being taken to local burnout contests, fill the trunk with canned goods during food drives, just car club stuff.

mustangs and Torino's aren't cheap these days
Any ideas for a RWD platform?

I believe that any of the Fox-chassis cars will take a 302 (LTD, mustang, thunderbird, cougar, granada, Mark VII, capri, fairmont, etc)

A Fairmont Futura actually looks pretty good and can usually be found cheap.

Old Crown Vic/ Grand Marquis/ Town Car? Especially a wagon- these are cheap, lots of room in the back, lots of room for club name, especialy if you "block out" the rear side windows. And everyone one of them was built with a V8.

Yes a Country Squire Station Wagon would do well for your purposes. I know a kid who fixed one up here, it's pretty quick, too.

How about a Maverick? I saw one in my neighborhood and I was surprised when I drove by and saw it had rear wheel disc brakes. Was that a factory option?

I'm surprised I didn't see this mentioned.

GET A PINTO

OK, you can stop laughing now & see the truth.

If not restored they aren't worth much & they are easy to retore, parts are available everywhere if you know where to look.

Most people will pay you $200.00 & their neighbors will pay you a few bucks also just so they can watch it get towed away.

The car came with a auto & manual tranny.

It will accept a 302 easily, hell it will even accept a 351W but if you want bigger you will have to do some cutting.

With a built 351W & proper rear end gearing & also having the knoledge to drive you will be able to do wheel stands in the car on city streets, just don't get caught.

LOL

good Idea, I kinda like pinto wagons with Van porthole windows(but don't admit it often)

I looks like we might get a 78 Fairmont 2 door.

Anyone know if its true that fairmonts use alot of fox chassis mustang front end parts?

A Fairmont is basically the same as a Fox body Mustang underneath.
You could get them with a 302 and 4 speed as well.

A buddy of mine has a Fairmont Futura that he set up with a 351W & C4.

That thing will fly. Unfortunatly he is to stupid to realize that when he tears the rear end out that he needs to beef it up instead of taken it back to stock.

I had a Fairmont body on my race car for a few years when we had to use steel bodies. I won best looking car a couple times so I guess I'm not the only one that thinks a Fairmont looks ok
