Welcome aboard tiny1! Glad to see you here - you'll be even happier once you get a chance to see what this board has to offer. Great info, jokes, friends, etc., etc., etc.
Joined up a few days ago and already feel like a member of the family.
Glad that you feel that way. Hopefully we can get some of us together so we can meet in person.
BTW, I was looking at your gallery with the new pictures. The truck looks great!! Very clean and looks much better after you took it off of the dealer's hands!!

I have had quite a few comments on its appearance. It took me a whole day and a few hours the next to complete the detail. It was all done by hand.... no PC buffer here! Boy was I tired after that, but it was my 'therapy' time.
Here is good one... when the misus and myself went to test drive the beast, we drove down to Canandaigua and took 5&20 to Batavia where the dealer is located. As we were getting onto 5&20, it was starting to flurry a little. As we drove west, it was snowing heavier and by the time we got to the dealer, there was 6-8" of fresh, wet lake effect snow on the roads (they had not gotten out to plow them yet).
My old vehicle was a Chevy Cavalier with 145K on it, had it since new. When the salesman brought the truck up front and parked it next to my car, my wife said "that is huge". It made my car look like a rollerskate. Anyways, the salesman stated that "it looks like a good day to test drive a 4X4!" Needless to say I agreed with him. I started driving down the road in 2 wheel and the truck was just handling the snow with no issues. When I looked down at the speedo, I realized that I was doing 55-60 (oooooops!!!) with all of the snow on the roads!!!! So at that point I knew that the truck was mine!!!!
Tiny - That is a good story. I have a similar one in that I was looking for a wagon for the family, but wanted something sporty and that I could club race (SCCA, autocross, track day stuff). Came across this 1985 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon and thought I would check it out. My son who was around 8 at the time was with me and we took off in the car. We are tooling along some switchbacks and then I take it out on the highway to see how it cruises. Well I am starting to think how uninspiring the car is until my son says, "Dad, why are the trees going by so fast?" I think "what" and then realize we way over the speed limit. Uninspiring my butt!!! I bought that car and had a blast with it for years on family trips, club racing, and just everyday driving. Sometimes I wish I had never sold it, but it was time for truck and so here I am.
Here is another one. After getting out of high school in '87 and I got a full time job, I had purchased a year old '86 Old Cutlass (307 4 bbl.) One night I was at a red light with a buddy and this guy pulled up next to me with a late '70's Z-28 that sounded pretty mean. I looked over to my buddy and told him to watch this. When the light changed green, I dropped the hammer and layed some rubber and left the Z sitting at the light. . The Olds was totally stock, right down to the wire wheel covers!! I had played with the idea of putting a motor out of a IROC Z or similar into the Olds. That would have been a sleeper.
Tiny - Don't underestimate you as the driver. I never have the money to dump into my vehicles like other people so I always focused on getting the most bang for the buck. Working on driving technique and tweeking your suspension can pay huge dividends. I learned that when I started club racing the Volvo as it was basically stock other than tires, wheels, shocks, and springs. I raced in the Porsche, BMW, and some SCCA club events and always placed in the top 1/3 of the field. That may not sound like much, but when you consider some of the vehicles that I beat (that there was no way that I should have) the only explaination is driver. I find the same thing is true in wheeling. My Range Rover is basically stock other than tires, shocks, and springs. It even has open diffs and I have been able to go places that fully built rigs with lockers and swampers have had problems. So yes a properly setup and modified vehicle is important, but don't underestimate your driving skills.
I agree with you 100%, and I was not trying to say that my driving abilities aren't the greatest. This guy seemed to have a bit of an 'attitude' as he also had built Cuda and between the two cars, he thought that he was king ***t.
What actually happened was that I caught him totally off guard thinking that some 17 year old was out with the parents car on a Friday night and would not even think about doing anything. Well he was WRONG!! and that is why I walked on him. If he had been expecting it, it would have been pretty equal I think.
Hehe.... Yeah I think we are starting to get a good group of members together on the board. Now if we all get together in person. Post up a date in the G2G thread when you can handle us coming over. If it just turns out to be us then
