I am looking to add(not replace) two 6x9 speakerss to my f-150 sound system but i do not know how to wire them can anyome help? Do i need to add a amp? How do i take wires to the new speakers?
Short answer: yeah, you're going to need an amp. How much you're willing to sink into this project will drive the equipment you choose. I'd suggest looking at one of the a/d/s multi-channel amps -- they're small, have clean power and can be had on eBay for not too much $$...
It sounds like you're not too familiar with car audio equip., in which case I would suggest to take the truck to a car audio shop and have the amp installed. But if you are the DYI type, here is what you need to do.
1. Go to walmart, best buy or whatever is near you and get an amp installation kit. It has all the wiring for the amp. You will need to run the + power wire staight from the battery and into the cab of the truck. The ground wire needs to be as short a possible and attached to the chassis of the truck (scrape off any paint and add some grease before screwing down)
2. (assuming you have the original Ford stereo) You will need to remove the trim around the stereo and remove the stereo so you can access the wiring.
Here you need to splice into the speaker wires and add a line level converter to hook up your RCA's to feed the amp. Also you need to find a remote turn on wire to turn on the amp.
3. Run your wiring under the door sills back to where you mount the amp and then wire the amp to the 6X9's
Thats the major steps, so if you think you can do it, go for it. There will be more detailed instructions in the amp kit. Oh yea, disconnect the battery before you start! Good luck.
To make your job ALOT easier and sound WAY better may I suggest you get a new headunit. Most, buy not all of them already have rca's on the rear to run to your amp(s). In the long run you'll be glad you did.
What's a headunit? Its worse than I thought. A headunit is your radio.
Take it to a shop, tell them what you want and pay the man. You'll avoid some headaches.
I am going to keep my head unit but i also want to add a subwoffer and have found a amp at walmart its is a Virtual Reality Sound Labs 4-Channel Car Amp VRA4.0 How do i wire this in junction with two speakers and a subwofer? How do i know which wire is the speaker wire behind the head unit and how do i attatch it?
Dude
Your best bet is to take the amp back to wall mart and contact www.crutchfield.com They should have the schematics and amps you need. If you have no experience with this stuff, it's a great way to hose things up. Pay to have it done if you need to.
