Ya man! That's crap! They should be putting a new engine in your truck. I think it might be a bit different if it was a truck from the 80's that was old and had a lot of mileage on it but this is a totally different scenario. Let us know what happens and good luck!

Did the engine even have full synthetic oil in it when you brought it to them for service? Even if it did, I dont think it is good enough to protect the engine dry for 50 miles. It had do do some amount of damage to the bearings. Guarantee you it didn't do the cylinder wall any good either.

Update time.

Spoke with three lawers and none are interested until the engine is torn down. The dealer's insurance company wanted me to pay for engine dissassembly and said they may reimburse me if damage was found. If no damage was found I would have to pay the whole shop cost. I told them that was not going to happen. They called back and offered to pay for the tear down but if no damage I would have to pay to reassemble. Now they are offering to pay for dissassembly and reassembly regardless of the outcome. I asked how they quantify damage and they will not respond. I ask what would happen if my mechanic and their inspector dod not agree and they did not respond. I asked if the engine was found damaged if I would get a new one or would they fix the old one and they said we would have to wait and see. Now they are rushing me to authorize teardown and I am trying to get them to answer these questions.

Now a question for you Ford experts. I think I am hearing a whirling metallic sound(it almost sound like exhaust but its not) coming from one of the heads when I am under load. The sound is the same as long as I am accelerating. Accelerating harder does not increase the sound, however the sound is worse if I am pulling a 2000lb boat. I am thinking it may be the overhead cam damaged from the incident. Which head on a 5.4 liter engine is more likely to fail from lack of oil? Does one head get oil before the other? By the way I think it is the left head. It is more noticeable with the windows up than down.

Thanks
