The bottom line is-some people want, and are satisfied with junk, period. There are too many Dodges out there falling apart for this not to be the case. And trust me, they are junk.
I may be the only member here that purchased brand new PSD and Dodge 1 ton duelly's the same year and toured the country putting up steel buildings using the truck's to haul men and tools. Every town we went to I was constantly being asked by towns people to compare the 2 trucks. I'll bet I caused Dodge millions of dollars in lost sales in the years I did that. Everytime I wrote that check to Chrysler Credit for $742.53 per month there were tears on the check. You know what? I don't even remember the size of the check to FoMoCredit. What does that tell you about what I think of Dodge trucks?
One thing a Dodge man can't say is that it's easy to fix. The most useless Chevrolet out there can be saved by a big block transplant, but the Dodge man will forever be wandering junk yards looking for a 440. Ford never made a truck that couldn't be made better with a 390 or 460 (unless, of course, it came that way)
Truth is if Dodge had sense enough to market a 6 speed automatic, or close-ratio 10 speed manual, that Cummins engine in a light truck world would be unstoppable. However, two serious flaws remain -it's a Dodge, and not all of us want to be over the road truckers.
The legendary 7.3 was about as good as automotive diesel engines get, but emissions and technology passed it up.
I have a psd, and at work we have nothing but dodge trucks with cummins engines. The engines are great in them. All sorts of power and torque. When (if) my 7.3 ever goes out on me i think I would throw a cummins in there instead of another 7.3, IF it didnt cost me a ton.
The dodge trucks are terrible as a truck though. Everytime i have to drive one, the best part about it, is getting out of it. The second best thing is the cummins There is no third best thing though lol.
