Can any of you experts pls tell me the tecnical differences between the F250 & the F350 (I know the GCVWR is higher). The reason I ask is I'm looking to buy a used ('99 or newer) PSD, AT, either 4 or 2WD XC SWB. but all of a sudden 250s are getting harder to find and 350s seem to be more plentiful. I've driven both and they don't seem to be that much different empty. Also second question. If I got the 350 can it be leveled and lowered about the same height as a 2wd model? Aprox cost? I will be pulling a 3 horse trailer, total wt around 1300#.
OK I did the search, spent three hours reading and got most of my answers, but still have one on this subject. I know the 350 has the 4" block in the rear which I assume I can replace with the 2" block from the 250. But there was no mention about the front I could find. Again I'm inquiring about '99 or newer 2 and 4WD.
Quick note, your horse trailer empty probably weighs 1300#, with 3 horses loaded, it could weigh another 2400# (800# each horse???) more. This is only 3700#, well below the Super Duty's towing capacity with any engine. If you have very much hilly terrain, you might think about lower gear ratio's. If you go with the 5.4 V8, you might look seriously for 4.10's.
With that big of a trailer, I'd definately get the V10 or PSD. I like the 4.30 gears with my V10, I pull about 13,000# total trailer weight also. Haven't pulled a trailer yet with my 6.0 PSD, but have a trip coming up soon and look forward to towing with it. You might even consider getting a dually if the trailer is a gooseneck or fifth wheel. I see your post says short bed, so you'd probably need a sliding hitch for a fifth wheel.
Sometime after 1999 they started using the Dana 60 on all Super Duty trucks (can't remember the year). Prior to that, the F250 had a Dana 50 in the front. There is no other difference in the current trucks except the blocks. This includes the springs (as posted from the spec sheet recently).
My info at the dealer says there is 1 more spring upgrade for the f350 from the f250. It doesn't specify it specifically. Where is this spec sheet you are referencing?
There are 3 differences between the SRW 250/350...
1) F-250 vs F-350 badges
2) 2" rear spacer block in 250 vs 4" in the 350
3) Weight capacity listed on sticker inside driver's door... 8,800 lbs vs 9,900 lbs.
Everything else is the same... Even the mysterious hook in the dash is rated for the same capacity!

Specs were posted on this recently and they are identical in the current trucks.
