I pull a LQ/ day room 2 horse (warmblood) straight load , We brought it home with a light duty 250, I do not recomend that, the superduty 250 did day shows well with the 5.4, But we ended up with a 350 v10 SRW after we added Hay, Shavings, Water, and all the other stuff we needed for a weekend shows and the longer pulls. Fully loaded (horses average 1400# to 1600# for us) we often push 17,000# GVR, We also travel as a family which adds a fair amount a stuff to the total.
8' wide you may want to look at a DRW but a SRW should do well.
and if you do go with a short bed you can always try a offset hitch to mantain manuverability. ( just seen a lot of dented short bed cabs.)

Twin Tritons, sorry for the misinfo on trailer wt. it's 13000# not 1300. It's going to be a 3 horse slant w/living quarters 8' X 27' or so.
