Towing Capacity

I need to find out the trailer weight towing capacity of my '68 F250 CS. I plan on buying a 5th wheel trailer & don't want to part with truck. Can anyone help?

You might try and locate an owners manual for your truck, if you don't already have one. There's also a towing forum here that you could post to.
The important thing to remember is how safely can your truck carry and stop that trailer? Don't forget to include your camping supplies to your gross vehicle weight.

Hi there,
I have a 67 f250 Crew Cab. I tow a 32 ft fifth wheel, no problem. I had to do quite a bit of mods to pull hills in the desert heat. Take a look at my setup in my gallery. Let me know if I can help

Many thanks

Dan, Thanks for the info. It is very helpful. I'm looking at a 27' 5th wheel weighing in at about 6800lbs. Thanks again, Bob.

I tow a tandem axel trailer loaded with hay with my 69 F100. The gross weight of the loaded trailer is 2000# + 5000# (hay) = 7000#. I have done this for years with a step bumper hitch (beefed up a bunch) and a receiver. I also had heating problems which were solved by a massive radiator.

Talking 67 CrewCab Pulls Like a Bull

Amazing at may sound, the 32' fifth wheel I pull is 9500# empty. The tongue weight is 1500#. I stopped by the state patrol scales and as I recall the total combined weight of my 67 crewcab and trailer was approaching 15000#. Although this truck started out as an F250, I have beefed it up all around to at least an F350 (Hellwig Load Pro 3000# Overload Springs, boxed reinforced frame, etc. The old girl gets around pretty well with the load.

Smile4you84: What motor and transmission do you have in your truck?

I have the 390 bored .040 over, true roller timing chain, fully ported and polished intake and exhaust, Edelbrock performer aluminum intake manifold, hardened exhaust seats, high volume oil pump, windage tray, Crane RV cam and high performance valve springs, etc ....check out my profile in the gallery for the other things I have done.

The tranny is the 3 speed FMX (cruise-o-matic) with a TransGo reprogramming kit (for immediate firm upshifts and downshifts), full amsoil synthetic transmission oil & filter and a Heavy Duty 40,000# gross tranny cooler (biggest one made). This cooler is great to dissipate the heat for pulling in the 100+ desert heat. The FMX cast iron tranny body does not dissipate the heat as well as the C-6 aluminum case tranny, so this cooler is a must. I had the torque converter rebuilt for Heavy Duty RV service. The entire system works flawlessly now, and it pulls great.

All I wish for now is an underdrive for starting from a stop on an incline, since the i'm not into the power curve enough....for now, I have to avoid stopping on too steep of a hill with the trailer.

Hope I have not bored you with too many details......
Dan

Another wish of mine is to own an oil refinery to get cheap fuel for my truck....since it uses LOTS of it pulling the trailer
