I'm looking for a way to read my trouble codes myself. Dealer wants 80 bucks . Autozone freebee ??? maybe if he would let me use with the da*! thing. Sears 149 bucks but its mine. I'de rather spend it on mods . I found this sight looking for advice a couple months ago and you guys gave me the fever. 97 F-150 4.6L 4x4 ext cab short bed flareside cat back with flowmaster Delta 40 , k&n filter, thinking about the Reflctive heat tape thing becouse I like the cooler stock box idea. Local dealer said 350 bucks for tuner. so the way I'm lookin at it is if I'm gonna buy a obd-II reader anyway Why not buy it from a guy that will save me 150 bucks on a tuner. My quandry is this . Is the OBD-II scanner in the superchips microtuner the same as these hand held jobs? The one at sears is made by actron I think and is identical to the one that the pin head wont let me push the buttons on. Although I should say we got a p1036 code back and new it was b1/s2 he just couldn't tell me which of the four it was therefor couldn't sell me one. This site is great found my answers in 5 min tops ( love that search button).
Its hard to say if its the same, because all the hand held readers are all different and have different capabilities. The Superchips Microtuner will display the codes and let you clear them. In the back of the Microtuner manual is a list of codes and what they are. You have to cross reference the codes the Microtuner gives with the listing in the book (though I still recommend you get a good OBDII code book for in-depth explainations).
Read the transmission? Not sure what you mean by that. It reads the computer. It will read all fault codes, including transmission codes the computer supplies. It will also allow the computer to recalibrate the speedometer.
Thanks sorry I shoulda known that. My truck is a 97 And the micro tuner can,t change my speedo ( not digital ) I finally found the vss and the gear for corrction. had to go two teeth and its is now dead on. but after 10 mile trip following my wife (first trip on 19 tooth gear) the od started flashing. Thanks again for the help. I think I'll call Joline back in the morning and order me one.
I am wanting to buy a good OBDII Reader so I can start doing my own work. Any suggestions? Where to buy? I don't need the most expensive but I do want an easy to use. I own a 2000 Ford F-150 (V8/4.6L, Supercab)..
