Four little boys (3,4,8,&10,) and 3-6 dogs (we do Great Dane rescue.) No other vehicle could reasonably fit us and our assorted gear! This saves us gas, even though the X gets worse mileage than the minivan it replaced, since we are rolling in one 11MPG vehicle, rather than the two 13-15 MPG ones it used to take.

FOUR boys !?!?!?!
How do you have TIME to calculate your mpg ?!?!!?
Welcome - we'll help whenever we can...
just don't ask for baby-sitters (or should I say referees )
My good friends own a 2001 Excursion. They had a very serious accident last week in it. A rice grinder ran a red light ( girl on a cell phone ), and t-boned them between the two side doors. The girl was removed by ambulance. The car was junk. The Excursion had some damage but they did drive it home. This is why I drive a Excursion. With all the talk on high price of gas or diesel fuel, you can't put too high of a price on safety.
There really isn't anything else like it, and it is exactly what I needed.

Five Kids, Boat, Sailplane that goes on a trailer for when I land in fields.
Plus hunt, fish, four wheel, Snow, baja, quads, etc, etc, etc...
We also have relatives back east, and will be driving it cross-country.
I drove with three kids and the wife in 2002 from Laguna Hills, Ca. To Levitttown, Long Island New York in 50 hours in our Honda Odyssey. With the EX I am hoping to beat that, and in style :-) I will just take a shorter nap in DesMoines this time...

I did a lot of research, and bought a 2005 EB 4X4 PSD.
I will buy another as soon as they upgrade them (unlikely but I'm hoping)
Or will be keeping this one a looong time. Paid cash, money very, very well spent.
Monsta,
I know you've 'splained it here, but I still don't get it. How do you insert pics? On the 2nd page of this thread Quietman inserted some pics and he does not have a gallery (at least one I can see). How did he do that? And I don't understand the "img" thing. And when you reply, remember to use small words because I'm in CA...I'm sure there's a reason you flew OVER CA to get to HI, right?
I heard y'all call us crazy...
See? (Hit QUOTE to see what I did.
and what does "hit quote" mean? I tried the quotation marks, typing quote...nothing works. Like I said, I stoopid.

Ever see the a formula 1 car hit a wall at 220mph? Size mean very little when it comes to safety aside from others not beening able to see around your fat butt.
Now why do you have to say that ?
Surely you meant to put a few smiley faces in there - didn't u?
Sound logic there - taking something completely irrelevant and trying to force a comparison...
Since NONE of us will be driving the X 200 mph - how is that relevant, do tell
the simple point that may have escaped your extensive logic research is that it IS all relative...
more mass will tend to "win" over less mass...
Good thing you are not in charge of anything
Free choice might be outlawed
along with free speech, and .....
n fact, you probably wouldn't be able to say what you just said

While I would agree, that at 220 mph, size/weight have minimal effect on occupant safety. But in normal driving environments, size and weight are a big plus. The following is from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Highway Loss Data Institute
Vehicle size and weight are important characteristics that influence crashworthiness. The laws of physics dictate that, all else being equal, larger and heavier vehicles are safer than smaller and lighter ones. In relation to their numbers on the road, small cars have more than twice as many occupant deaths each year as large cars.
Size and weight are closely related. Large vehicles typically are heavy, and small ones are light. But these two characteristics don't influence crashworthiness the same way. Vehicle size can protect you in both single- and two-vehicle collisions because larger vehicles usually have longer crush zones, which help prevent damage to the safety cage and lower the crash forces inside it.
Vehicle weight protects you principally in two-vehicle crashes. In a head-on crash, for example, the heavier vehicle drives the lighter one backwards, which decreases forces inside the heavy vehicle and increases forces in the lighter one. All heavy vehicles, even poorly designed ones, offer this advantage in two-vehicle collisions but may not offer good protection in single-vehicle crashes.

I agree to a point but i cannot count how many times i have avoided a crash by have a car that was small enough and manuverable enought to avoid serious trouble.
That is more a matter of attentiveness than agility...
(or lack of attentiveness that GOT you INTO that situation )
be honest - which one was it ?
I would bet the 8K+ X can actually do QUITE well with the sway bars, etc... I have...
I know some of my previous cars would have a hard time keeping up with it thru the cones
I have been a Paramedic for 16 years and seeing the results of various crashes I want the best chance for my family.I drive responsibly and yes I am a woman who can drive this Behemoth as they are so titled. So far in my career I have never seen an x rolled over, I have seen Jeeps of every kind in every position.I think the general public lumps us in with the irresponsible mini SUV drivers giving it a bad wrap..Driven safely I think this is one of the safest vehicles out there.I did not buy it for the gas mileage,or to run a slalom course. It is a great way to get my 4 kids, animals, and stuff from point A-B.Safely.
The day someone scratches my truck because they feel like they have a right to as some groups out there are doing,Well you can guess.........
