Order process help....

Ordered my dream truck on 3/29/2004. Have not heard from the dealer or salesman as of this morning (4/21/2004) so I dropped by and asked them for answers. Guy who manages their order system shuffles some paper, looks at the calendar and tells me ‘to be built next week”. Asked if there was a VIN available and there was not.

Is something fishy going on? Could someone who has been through this process tell me when VIN is assigned? I was under the assumption that it happened when Ford picked the order up and it got into their system.

Thanks for any help anyone is willing to share.

Is something fishy going on? ..... yeah, it's possible.

If there is a build date on your truck, there should be a vin. Ford may not have picked up your order yet, though. Do you know what the priority code on your order is? If its a higher number, like 40...forget it. You want that to be a low number.
You can ask your dealer for a copy of the VOC (vehicle order confirmation). It will have all of the information you need to track the order yourself using the VOPC (vehicle order processing center) automated system. The phone number is <!-- 800-962-3746 -->. The system is easier to work with if you chose to use the order number rather than the vin. You will need the following info:
dealer code
body style code (F250 = W21)
order number

I hope this helps-- I've been going through some real 'fishy' dealings on my order, as well. It's really frustrating but hang in there. You are entitled to know whats going on, so keep at 'em until you have answers. Your looking at spending a lot of $$ with this dealer and they should be working for you. Good luck & keep us posted on whats going on.

As an added note:
The VOPC is a system for dealers, not consumers. The automated system will tell you the status of your order, but if you speak with a person, they will most likely not tell you anything. I asked my dealer about it before I knew it was not for the public and he told me that calling VOPC would hold up my order. NOT TRUE!! But the dealer probably would not like to know that you're using their system.

Lookin is right, using the VOPC will not hold up the order. I called almost every other day and spoke to an agent, when they asked who it was, I gave them the name of my salesman, worked fine and they gave me the status.

You should without a doubt have the VIN by now, make the dealership provide that. If they have a build date they can get the VIN.

By all means check VOPC. I've been waiting 3 months. I called the dealer friday the 16th and was told the truck was in Virginia waiting transit, and it was red tagged should be shipped out this week. Called VOPC last night and found out the truck was delivered Friday the 16th. I got a hold of them today and of course everyone I dealt with was off today. After I called them three times they found the truck and I should get it tomorrow. I hope it didn't get damaged in transit and they were repairing it. Man I can't stand being told "we'll call as soon as it gets here" and you have to let them know it's been delivered.

othg mike-

Don't know if it would be the same reason, but my truck sat for a while before shipping due to railway strikes. They say it'll be here wednesday. Haven't called VOPC to check yet. It's supposed to be 'red tagged' also.

I would have to say the dealer may have dropped the ball. I ordered my SD on 1 Apr and got a VIN 5 days later (not sure when the dealer got the info, that's when I called him back). I have called several times to the VOPC and all I used was the dealer No, body style, and order No. Information can be found on the VOC. Used the voice activation to get info. Don't use the VIN it won't work. Mine was built on the 19 Apr and is to be delivered to the dealer on the 26 Apr. AS said above, if he told you a build date, then he would have to know the VIN. He may have told you that to get you off his back.

First of all, thanks for the help !!!
I have been hanging around this site since before I bought my 2000 F-250 and have nothing but great things to say about its members, administrators and Ken. This site is a wonderful example of the 'positive' that the Internet brings to us...

Called (actually faxed) my salesman today and he was more than willing to fax me a copy of my vehicle order confirmation that was sent to ford. Order number gave me everything I needed to use the VPOC automated system that you folks hooked me up with and..... long story shortened..... My truck IS indeed scheduled to be built next week (week of April 26) and scheduled for delivery on or around May 17th.

I got that 6.0 Grin Going.

Like many others I sometimes feel like I am playing roulette with this new truck but I stop and talk to every 6.0 driver I see in my travels in the appraisal business and have yet to hear of even 1 owner who has had issues with either the engine or transmission. I know problems exist and I guess it just goes to show that this is the premier Ford Truck site to get answers to questions and or discuss problems. BTW.... I ask everyone if they have ever been to this site and every one has told me no. I write the address down and give it to them on a business card.

Sorry for the long post. I am extremely grateful for your help and hope that I can help someone in the future...

Keep Grinnin'
Craig

VOPC says my truck was released from "foreign" plant today. Us southerners love to think of ourselves as "foreigners" to some extent, but WTH is this about?
Anyhoo, my truck was built somewhere today and I am excited....

Thanks for the help.

Mine said the same thing. It was built in Kentucky. Last I checked, Kentucky was in the good ol' US of A.
Get ready!! It'll be here before you know it!

craigwilliamson, My truck was built yesterday too!! If the 11th digit on your VIN is E then it was built in Kentucky.

CobraR:

Congratulations are in order!! I got my order confirmation from the dealer last week and have yet to get a VIN but I am pretty confident my truck was built in Ky also. I was being a little sarcastic. Hope no one takes me too serious because I (along with my wife and most everyone I know) do not...
My truck is on a rail carrier somewhere and can't wait to take home my first Ford diesel. I am psyched !! Best of Luck to you and everyone else waiting on their vehicle......

For what it's worth. I ordered my F-250 PSD on April 5th, got a faxed VOC on April 6th. Two weeks later got a confirmed build date and VIN number.

I used the voice activated response system to verify the factory release date of April 28th. Last week in a conversation with the fleet manager, he indicated that the truck could sit in the rail terminal for up to ten days unless someone checked and asked for it to be delivered asap.

Luckily my dealer is only ten miles from the rail terminal and he can go pick it up if necessary. Depending on how far you are from the rail terminal, they will likely wait until there is a full truck load coming your way before the convoy will deliver.

When calling the VOPC it much easaier to use the order number rather than the VIN. Even then you have to speak slowly and distinctly. The biggest problem is getting the order number and body style correct. The F-250 has several different styles, mine happend to be X20. The first time I call I had something else and the computer kept telling me there was no record.

It's extremely important to all the numbers and letters correct.
The dealer number is a five digit number, no letters. When you see the window sticker it will show the dealer number somewhat different with letters.
