I asked this question in the computer chip page but no answers. I am looking for any info on the Diablo 78hp chip. Does it raise the EGT's to an uncomfortable level? Does it make the truck smoke and if so how bad? Did it help mileage? Was there a noticeable difference in power?

I had a 78 HP chip and sent it back for a 110HP chip. The 78 did raise the EGT's and i would not run the chip without a gauge. As far as the black smoke, it would be enough to get someone next to you angry, but it really only smokes when you get into the throttle from a dead stop or when you tottally slam the pedal down when passing someone. The mileage went up about 2MPG. There is a huge difference in power. More than you can imagine until you actually drive a truck with a chip. Good luck and keep the questions coming.

Thanks Dave, now how is that 110hp performing? Is it a Diablo also? I Would appreciate it if you could answer the questions above for the 110. Also what is your towing limit now?
We do 90, 100, 110 and 125 but require a release because you're pushing the limitations of the truck and the temps will be high, requiring a EGT gauge. Unloaded with 78HP you shouldn't have to worry about high temps but loaded you will.
Oh man a release! I like this, it means there is some serious power there! Let me think about this before I make a decision. Thanks Ken, I'll call in a day or two.
Well....the 110HP is not in my truck yet, but it is in my buddies truck and it is unholy. More black smoke, more power, egt's didnt change much. (His truck is setup just like mine, exhaust, gauges etc.) Um..i have 26,000 miles on my truck and just blew a tranny. Dont know why, its still in the shop. Ford is covering it this time but not next time, so im looking into upgraded torque convertors (see the thread in the super and heavy duty forum)

dave, if you run an auto trans, you may want to look into an external trans cooler (a big one). more heat means more wear on an auto, especially in a diesel.
