Anyone have any experience installing a Ford Powercode remote start system? It seems like it's a direct plug module under the dash but the local parts department guy says it's pretty involved and should only be dealer installed.
I hope you haven't bought it yet- they're junk. Very expensive, and we've had nothing but trouble with the ones we've installed. We've gone to having a local accessories shop install an after-market unit for less than half the price, and no problems.
I have a Viper 790XV alarm system on my Screw which has remote start and is a 2-way system so you get feedback/status from the system. It's supposed to have the best range in the industry but I haven't tested that yet. It also lets you know when you (keyfob) are out of range - I can say that that hasn't happened to me yet - even in the mall . . . I had it installed for a total cost of $440. You can see details here:
Also you no longer need the stock Ford keyfob since the alarm keyfob locks and unlocks your doors also. It just takes a little getting used to the larger keyfob (LCD display)
The Ford systems seemed overpriced for what they offered! I would definitely check aftermarket before you decide on the Ford. . .

Similar to JRRoth1, I have the 2-way Viper system on my 04 SCrew. I have had the version without the alarm for two years now and it has worked flawlessly for me.
Dealer Said Was Loose Pin Connector After 3 Days .. Ya Right.. Now Door Locks Not Working Right,,, Dealer Installed Auto-starter Piece Of Junk.. I,m Soooo Madd Only Have 500 Miles On Truck Now .. Going Back To Dealer On Sat. In Am We Will See.. 06 Supercrew 4x4..xlt.
Merene3, sounds like they did a bad install. As far as working after you put the key in, and then hit the remote and it works, it seems like a problem with the PATS bypass antenna. The antenna ring might not be properly attached to the ignition column, or wasn't properly programmed with the 2 master keys.
This website will help you guys, it has the install manuals for all Ford vehicles: www.gemsen.com/ford
Steve Thanks For The Help... Took That Info To Dealer And Talked To Mechanic That Was Working On Truck And Last Guy Programed Wrong When I Had A Problem With Brake Light Short And That Dealer Did Not Install The Optional Relays For The Door.. But They Installed It On That Saturday And Reprogramed It And Works Ok Now.. (note He Found That The Dimmer On Headlight Switch Was Bad Most Likley From Short) And That Is Why Would Not Program Right And Work Correct.. But Ok Now.. Thanks Again Steve....
Glad it worked out for you. I had installed the Ford kit myself in the past on my old 2002 Sport Trac, and a friends 02 F-150. It is so time consuming. I decided to pay someone do install this time on my 04 truck. They did an ok job but they didn't hook up the dome light wire. Without that wire hooked up, I couldn't get into the programming options. Luckily I found that website. So I was able to hookup the dome light properly, and while I was at it, I hooked up my side mirror defrosters to the AUX1 output on the system. So I press and hold the button to start my truck, and then after it starts, I press the button one more time and it turns on my mirror defrosters.
