ok here's the deal, I need new tires for my truck 1997 f250LD 2wd I'm looking for a 265/70/16 what is the best tire considering I'm limiting my search to Michelin, BFGoodrich or Uniroyal, since I can get a considerable discount on the tires I'm thinkiong of the BFGoodrich Ta K/O but would like to hear what others have to say
Do you go off road? I noticed that you have a 2wd. I like the BFG Long Trail T/A's. I put some on my 2001 F150 OFFROAD 4x4. They are much better than the original Goodyear RT/S that came on it. They have nice wide tread grooves to help in the non paved enviroment. My opinion is that BFG makes the best tires out there. They are strong, last a long time and are the best deal usually.
I do light offroading stuff and I also drive it in the snow snice I live in new england, I was looking at the BFG All Terrain T/A KO, since I can get them for a reasonable price
The BFG long trail will be a execellent tire if you do a lot of highway driving with some light off road use.
The all terrains are another great tire, but they prolly wont last as long, and will be louder, (in most cases) as the long trails, but you will have more off road traction, and more winter traction.
Just a word or 2 or 3 to add to what LxMan1 wrote about the BFG Long Trail T/A and the Goodyear RT/S. My 03 4 X 4 F150 also came with the Goodyear RT/S. They are fine for highway and normal usage but for any sort of real snow conditions or muddy trails they are weak.
I had a set of the BFG Long Trail T/A on my Toyota and I loved those tires. Quiet and sure footed on the highway and much stronger in snow and mud. And long lasting too. And usually they can be found at a bargain price. For what it is worth, a certain consumer mag gave them rave reviews a few years back.
The Long Trails are rated to go about 50,000 miles or more. My Good Years went a whopping 35,000 and were at the wear bars.
According to the BFG website, the long trails have a tread life rating of 10 and the A/T ko's have a rating of 6. This means that they will last 40% less miles than a Long Trail.
I got a really good deal on my Long Trails at Sam's Club. $114 a tire + 9.95 for mounting , balancing, road hazard. etc.
