Iwould go no less than 10 BTC. It prob would stand more. My 460 with light mods runs well at 16 BTC. I would keep stepping up a degree or two at a time until you start to get VERY light spark Knock then back it down 2. Just make sure you listen to the motor very carefully.

Some one else may have run a simmilar set up and could give you an aprox. deg. #

Anybody Else?

Running no vacuum advance at all is preferable to hooking it to manifold vacuum. You wouldn't get any advance to begin with.

With no vacuum advance, you really need to dial in your mechanical advance for the application. I'm sure you can get advance curves designed especially for mud bogging.

That is going to be a pretty lumpy cam in a 429. DO NOT expect to get a stock idle with that setup. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to get it adjusted perfectly.

I would suggest taking a look at Barry Grants site for tech info on that Demon carb. You will probably need to run about 18 degrees initial timing and get the distributor recurved to give you the total you are looking for. I know it sounds like alot of timing but on my 390 I was setup with 16 degrees BTDC at idle with a total of 32 degrees at 3600 RPM. Now this is for towing and your setup requires more. I would not be surprised if you were told to bump the timing up above 20 degrees at idle.

UPDATE: After taking a look at the Demon site they recommend the Race Demon for engines that have a cam with a duration of 260 degrees at .050 lift. So according to Barry Grant that carb is little on the big side for what you are wanting it for. They are suggesting a Speed Demon carb and maybe a Mighty Demon. With the Race Demon they are suggesting a initial timing of 20 + degrees.

For a puller, or a mud racer, lock out all advance and set it for 34 to 36 total. I have found on chassis dyno that 38 usually costs a bit and 36 is about the sweet spot. Race on man!

Yea, Stock, MSD, Accell, Jacobs, Crane.....the 460 with factory iron heads seem to like 36°. I blame it on burn rate and valve timing, and your cam timing is not far from mine, as I also use the 114 lobe sep, and just a bit more duration at 0.050" but with a good bit more lift. If you jack with valve timing your needs for timing may change a bit, but from all my Ford buddies that pull, and the few that drag race, it seems that these engines all want 36, I only know of 2 guys that claim that 38 degrees total timing is better on thier engines, and one guy has aftermarket heads and uses 34 degrees total. All of us have lock out dizzy's, no advance of any sort.
