Hey everyone, I have been looking around for an 8' flatbed for one of my pickups. I have looked at Circle H, Deweze and Besler so far, although they did not list prices on the website. Does anyone know of any other companies that make flatbeds for pickups? I do not need a fancy one, but I would prefer the bed to be diamond plated steel, instead of wood, unless I could get a good deal on one. Also, if anyone within a reasonable distance of the Rapid City area knows of a used one that someone wants to sell, I might be interested.
Im a general contractor and one time i had a pickup that met an unfortunate accident where the top of the bed became crushed. well a buddy of mine had some scrap C channel and we made a flatbed real easy its not hard if ya can weld and it aint expensive either we did 2X6 pieces of wood on the floor but you could just weld diamond plate on yours if you want im sure there are places on the net to get plans for a flatbed most of the ones i see for sale are real expensive particularly the aluminum ones
I have thought about building one before, but I have heard that a simple no frills flatbed can be had for about a grand, so I am going to do some checking around before I decide to build one. I have seen some of the fancy dually flatbeds priced at around $12,000 (ouch). My dad has a Bestler with a hay bale lift and he payed something like $6000 for it(can't remember for sure), although it has been worth every penny. The only two things that I need are a headache rack and a gooseneck hitch.
flat beds are real popular with the fullsize off road guys. maybe you could check with a good off road fab shop and see what they would charge to do one.
I do not know of any off road shops in the area, but I am sure that there is one somewhere in Rapid. I might have to check it out, but it might end up being pretty expensive.
Hey MJD west of me is flatbed country out in the ranch area . When I go to the next cattle sale Ill look around and see what brands are out there. What are you willing to spend ? I know some of those ranchers pretty good and Ill ask some questions. It seems like every other truck has a flatbed on it. How about trying the classifieds in your local shopper or paper. You could put an ad in looking for a used flatbed. Ill bet there are alot of them around. Hope this helps some.
MJD,
You might try readingbody.com--- click on the platform body and I think you will find what you are looking for. They are in Pennsylvania but they have distributors all over the country I believe.
Hope this helps.
I am not sure what my budget will be at this time, but around $1,000 is probably close. I might have to check around at a few junk yards and see if they might have one around. It might end up being cheap to go buy an old beat up pickup with a decent flatbed on it. Around here, there are also quite a few people with flatbeds, so I may have luck just looking around.
I checked out readingbody.com, but, according to the website, the nearest distrubutor is in Denver. The flatbeds looked like they would work, though. I have heard of them before, so there may be a place to get them around here.
