Question exhaust installation

I am going to install a 4" exhaust kit on a friends truck. I work at an auto parts store, he will buy the kit from me, and I don't know how much labor I should ask for the installation of his exhaust. I have done my truck and my brothers with the flowmaster turbo back kit but I have no clue what to charge the guy for the installation???? If anybody does this sort of work let me know how much you charge.

Maybe you could charge him shop rate.... maybe like $40/hour or something like that.

I thought about that but didn't have a rock solid number. Thank you.

That all depends on how much of a friend he is. I've helped a few friends put exhausts, among many other things, on their trucks. I've got a shop that you can pull a couple trucks in and still have room to work around them. ANYHOW - I usually don't charge them - but then when I need help with my mods - they're there giving me a hand.
Anyway - pick a number that covers the time you think you'll have in it and ask him if that sounds fair - that's my suggestion.

Call a local exhaust shop and get the labor charge for them installing it, then charge about half, thats what i do for side job clients.

first of all unless you are a mechanic, i wouldn't charge anyone shop rates as you are not going to be able to install the exhaust as fast as a mechanic thus costing your freind extra money, combined with the fact that you are not insured or bonded to do the work and that is why shop rates are so high in the first place. They have to be able to pay to fix your truck if they screw it up. Secondly I never charge freinds for anything due to the fact that I'm sure I will need their help on something in the future and definately don't want to have to pay a freind the help me out. A good solution to your problem is to work out a trade of services with him or like mentioned above, charge him some suds. Now having said that I believe the installation of a 4" inch exhaust to fairly be about 75 bucks!! good luck!!!

I agree with all of the above. Do the guy a favor, and get him to help you. That way you both know what's going on, and have no liability. Throw in some suds for payment and everyone has a good time.

An exhaust shop would charge $100.00 for the install.

you charge for the install, you are liable for any problems, damage, whatever that can be even remotely connected to the work you did. Leave it!
