Does anyone know how to remove the A/C hose that goes through the firewall on an 99 excpedition?
I am removing the blend door and need to remove the dash and the whole piece that hold the heat core, motor and door. New model. Hmm, I guess I'm not the only who has done this. What a job. Not sure I would do it again, but down to the end. Then I have to remember where all the nuts and bolts go.
I guess you can see why we techs charge a fair amount to do this job. Once you recover the freon, you uncouple the freon lines with a disconnect tool. You can find them at the parts stores I believe.
Thanks for the response. I'm new to this forum, but finding great info.
Next time I will think twice. But have done it once the second time should be easy. -
I sure hope my heater core doesn't go out soon.......
I have read that I can take the door out of the new part $255 and put it in the old housing. I think that is what I am going to do and then I won't have to pull the whole housing. Easer and less time consuming. And if it breaks again, should be a snap the SECOND time.
Yes, some people do it that way. The way I see it, they made some change to the case, whether it was realignment of the mounting studs or what it was hasnt been stated to us, but it has been updated in some way that is supposed to prevent future breakage so I do the whole swap. My customer pays for the labor to do the whole job and I wont short change them for the sake of beating the flat rate. But as the owner and the person who paid for it, you cant cheat yourself.
BTW, I would spend the extra 50 bucks or whatever to buy a new heater core while you are in there. They are known to have premature failure and you would be money and labor ahead to do so now.
