Temp. Gauge ?

The temp. gauge on my 79 F-350 w/400 is reading to the high end of the normal scale when fully warmed. I checked the coolant temp at 165 degrees, changed sending unit twice(once it was broken, second because of gauge reading) and I even changed the instrument cluster and still get same reading. Any ideas?

Thanks.
Mike.

Sounds like you got the wrong temp sender. I just got my gauge working and it used a GP Sorenson TSU103. The parts guy said about all used this one.

There are 2 different S/U's
One for the Idiot light & another one for the gauge.

The temp seems low.

I wouldn't go any cooler than a 180* T-stat.

The engine should run around 210-215 with the proper mix of water/coolant.

Dennis is correct use the recommended 195 stat or 180 minimum. Do any of your other gages read high? If they do you may have a bad instrument panel volatage regulator.

Thanks for the replys!
I need to put a different gauge on it and see where the problem is and go from there.

I'm sitting at 190-200* now. Is that too cool? I was getting 215-220* but was worried that it was a little high. Think my T-stat is 190* but I added a second fan to keep the temp down. Of course it's been too cold to predict what will happen in summer temps.
