in my truck, i have a 78-79 d60 hp front end. it also has the discs up front. i went to change my master cylinder this weekend and i discovered that the only master cylinder i can get is for drum brakes, it has both resevoirs being the same size. the master that was in the truck before is one for a disc front setup with the rear resevoir being larger. i read in another forum that discs werent offered on the 75 model year so i dont see how i could have a disc master cylinder in the front of this thing as original equipment. i dont know if the booster has been changed, but the 75 drum master bolted right onto the booster that is in the truck. so, what i'm asking, basically, is what master cylinder should i be using for my truck? i dont really have any brakes to speak of and i would like to try and remedy this situation. should the 75 drum master be compatible with the discs in the d60? or do i need to get another master from a different year? any help would be appreciated
get a master cylinder for a 76 F-250 with disc brakes....I think that is the first year that discs were offered....at least that is what mine has....should fit without any problems
definately get a disc brake master, as disc brakes require more volume to work properly. also the booster may be different, which could give the incorrect stroke. I have a 75 with drums and a 76 with discs and the boosters are different. just a thought.
